Not a True VR Experience
All of the scenes are pre-rendered from a fixed vantage point. At a price point of CAD27.99, I was expecting to be able to freely navigate the 3D model as one would in most games nowadays. This only lets you pan/tilt and zoom inside of several fixed spherical projections. The bitmap rendering becomes pixelated when you zoom. The user interface is terrible. All controls are in a needlessly huge “tablet” modal that blocks most of the screen when enabled. The tablet can be made smaller via the settings but it requires many taps on unintuitive arrows and then the preference is forgotten when you reopen the app. The time warp feature that seems to be available at some vantage points actually move you to a different POV. You can only toggle time warp with the tablet open, so most of the screen is blocked when you toggle, making comparisons of the rendering to present day difficult at best. The renderings line up very poorly with the 360 photos of the present day forum. I would normally seek a refund for such a disappointing app but given the importance of the project, I would rather let the developers use the proceeds to work on a new version that lets the iPad render the model in real-time. In the meantime I hope they update the description to be more reflective of the actual experience.
