With almost a quarter million downloads, the free Rough Rider compressor from Audio Damage is one of the most popular plugin effects on the planet.
RoughRider3 expands on the original RoughRider and RoughRider2. New features:
• External Sidechain Input in hosts that support it. (Currently only AUM)
• Sidechain HPF control (works on both normal operation and external sidechain, for removing the low end from the compression algorithm.)
• Input and Output level controls, for easier level tuning.
• FULL BANDWIDTH control removes the warming features and high end attenuation from the original RoughRider, for a cleaner sound.
All this in addition to the original RoughRider compression you know and love. RoughRider3 installs both an AUv3 and a standalone with Inter-App Audio.

RoughRider3 FAQ
Is RoughRider3 free?
Yes, RoughRider3 is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is RoughRider3 legit?
Not enough reviews to make a reliable assessment. The app needs more user feedback.
I’ve been using RoughRider 2 and 3 for years in almost every project. Both in ios and on mac. I mean hundreds of mixes!
Every time I need a compressor, this is my first choice. It is simple and gets the job done. And if you know what you’re doing, aliasing is not a big problem. (Yes it adds mud to low-end if you’re driving it too hard)
Use it on every session
If you’re using GarageBand you’ll know that the included compressor is all but useless. I got this after seeing someone use it on YouTube and it has fundamentally changed the way I record; recording, mixing, and mastering a record entirely in GarageBand for iOS wasn’t really realistic until I discovered this compressor.
It’s good for vocals, great for drums, and absolutely amazing on final mixes in the mastering stage. Put an EQ boost in front of it and an EQ cut behind it and hear how sensitive and accurate this thing is. I need to look into the sidechain feature, it does something but I’m not sure what, as GarageBand doesn’t actually support side-chaining... But other than that, I’ve become very well acquainted with this compressor and I consider it a good friend. Part of the family even. If you need a compressor and don’t want to spend $20, don’t worry-Roughrider3 has got you COVERED. For real, I don’t know why this thing doesn’t have 100k reviews.
Some crash in iPadOS 15
It sometimes crash when the Bluetooth connected (auto )to a music player,
Perfect for my podcast and my music!
I have an SM57 and GarageBand. SM57s are very quiet, and GB’s compressor is super noisy. RoughRider is clean, user-friendly, and good for everything. No flaws.
I had to big up this app
I’m sitting here going through all the dope presets on this thing and smh because I can’t believe this powerhouse compressor is absolutely free. I haven’t even tried to use the compressor in BM3 yet because this thing is all I need and then some. I’m speaking strictly drumz. Update. Guess what? I started applying this thing to all my instruments, keys, bass etc everything! it adds so much flava and dynamics. just adjust accordingly and use it as an aux send.
I was ECSTATIC to see this available for iPhone!!!
I am a musician, audio engineer, and producer for a living. I was actually looking for a great VST compressor, compatible with Reason 11, when I stumbled across the RoughRider2 compressor, which I was crazy about. Shortly thereafter, I discovered RR3, and I sincerely run it on almost 100% of my vocal and bass performances. Honestly, I haven’t messed with this app too much yet, but if it supports Audiobus, and is even 1/16th as amazing as the VST... SIGN. ME. UP!!
It’s also FREE!! Seriously, where’s your donation box?? Take my money.... Take all my money...
IAA Not Working?
I can’t open this app in BeatMaker 3 for some reason so I can’t really use this
