Description

Scape makes music that thinks for itself. From Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers, creators of Bloom, Scape is a new form of album which offers users deep access to its musical elements. These can be endlessly recombined to behave intelligently: reacting to each other, changing mood together, making new sonic spaces.
Can machines create original music? Scape is our answer to that question: it employs some of the sounds, processes and compositional rules that we have been using for many years and applies them in fresh combinations, to create new music. Scape makes music that thinks for itself.

Scape Reviews

Remarkable

A brilliant app. A must for anyone interested in ambient sounds, whether you choose to interact or simply listen to the scapes included.

Scape is a wonderful step forward

Scape represents one of the next steps forward in music production, where the album generates itself and you control some of the variables. Users will be able to create immersive soundscapes that vary wildly and learn the playful self generating rules that the musical elements have.

Another amazing app from Eno

Wonderful app. Very simple and intuitive to use. The resulting soundscapes are fascinating. I like how the app introduces new elements over time so that you are not overwhelmed by choice at the beginning. We are very lucky Brian Eno has taken such an interest in developing these little applications and sharing them with us. Highly recommended.

Don't bother unless you're Eno blind fan

Worst $6 I've ever spent. There are way cheaper and way better apps to create ambient sounds. Unless you are Eno's fan and MUST hear everything he creates...

An endless ambient delight

Peter Chilvers is not just Brian Eno's IT tech. His musical instincts have taken Brian Eno's sounds and concepts to a new, unique place. It's a shame the non-iDevice world doesn't get a taste of how interesting these various apps (and Scape in particular) are. If this style of music is to your taste, Scape is a quantum leap forward. Endlessly intriguing.

Spectacular — with One Caveat

I have had Scape for close to seven years now, and am still generating my own pieces (140 and counting). Don't be fooled by the price point and abstract nature; if you're looking for vastly expansive soundscape and ambience generation at your fingertips, with the opportunity to save and manage your ideas, this is your ideal creation space. There's really nothing else like it on the App Store. However…Scape has one potentially major caveat, and it isn't the lack of a proper export function. There have been no updates in any form in over half a decade, and sooner or later it will no longer be supported by future iOS versions. Moreover, I believe that as Scape is both Opal Limited's most ambitious app and is over a decade old, it should be updated to reflect its potential in some way. I mean, Trope just received a symmetry update five months ago, and its existence predates this app. I don't know who checks these reviews (if anyone), but in sum: Opal Limited has here a unique and innovative work of beauty. Please don't let it gather dust and fade quietly away.

Thanks, but...no.

It was a great app when it worked on my older iPad 2. With the updates, it's no longer compatible. I really enjoyed the app, too.
