Screens 5 Reviews

Not very reliable

ac5903 on

Constant disconnections. And also appears to be entirely unable to punch through double-NAT on the train... complaining about UPnP configs. UPDATE: Replying to the developer response, this *is* while using the Connect application on the server side. And yes, I promise the credentials are correct. ) The connection itself isn't durable; by that I mean nn the train, other tools such as RealVNC and RDP work perfectly (even with occasional freezes while my modem switches towers, the connection always recovers) while conversely Screens (WITH Connect on the remote server) will just kick me out every time there's the slightest connection hiccup.

Constant disconnections, and authentication doesn't work a lot of the time. And also appears to be entirely unable to punch through double-NAT... complaining about UPnP configs. Bush league. Please do better.

Doesn’t scale my Mac screen to match the resolution of my iPad and therefore had to choose a different app

Nowadays these minimum system requirements goes insane. I purchased but I can’t use it on iOS 16, which is just one year old previous iOS version. :(

I really wanted to try this out to connect to a Raspberry Pi. I’m happy with really short time window for evaluation, and initially pleased that it seemed to offer ability to test it. However, it’s an illusion, as you cannot test it for free without paying for first year subscription for it. Presumably you can cancel within 14 days. I have no reason to believe that Edovia is not totally ethical and great business, but too many times in the past I’ve found it is real hassle to get auto billings stopped under such circumstances. Screens might be a great product, but at $80/year it would have to be a stunningly good program for what it does. Unfortunately, the developer won’t let you discern that for free.

Always very happy with the Mac as well as iOS apps. Now moving on for a non subscription base platform.

Great app

Great app. Many new features make it better than Screens 4. Enough so that I am okay paying a subscription. One issue though- when I’m using on iPhone, the entire screen is not viewable. I have to pinch to zoom slightly to adjust the edges of the screen to see the top edge, or the left or right side of the screen. This was not the case with Screens 4. Please fix this.

Getting There

Screens 5 was a bit of a rough start for me. I have stayed with it as the product has evolved, and it is working very well now. I expect to upgrade my review to 5 stars in time as I think there is still some room for improvement. Nonetheless, I am not planning to look for another option as this is a great app!
