Wrong aircraft, wrong info
Flying SFO-AKL on October 7th 2016 using Air NZ I was in a rubbish seat so created an alert for a window or aisle seat. Every day in the week prior to departure, the app told me there were seats free and every time I called the airline they told me there weren't any It turns out seat alert had the wrong aircraft for the flight and was showing seats available that didn't exist on the actual aircraft Air NZ were telling me the truth, the app was completely wrong.
