Each Purana represents one God and describes him as the supreme most and glorifies him.

Paranas. have kept our cultural values alive. They have nurtured our spiritual progress, also.
Shiv Mahapuan's is one of the 18 Parans. It was written by Rishi Ved Vyas. It consists of 24,000 Shloka's in 7 Samhitas.
It describes the story of Lord Shiva. Each Samhita has a name and they are as follows:-
1. Vageshwari Samhita
2. Rudra Samhita
3. Shatrudra Samhita
4. Kotirudra Samhita
5. Uma Samhita
6. Kailash Samhita
7. Vayaviya Samhita
The first seven chapters of Shiva Mahapuran recites the stories of Mahathmanya. That is what are the benefits of listening and chanting Shiva katha and how to get the best of it. There are examples from hindu mythology regarding this.

A Jyotirlinga is a devotional object representing the god Shiva.
Jyoti means 'radiance' and lingam the 'mark or sign' of Shiva, or a symbol of the pineal gland; Jyotir Lingam thus means the The Radiant sign of The Almighty. There are twelve traditional Jyotirlinga shrines in India.
