Great App, BUT..
I absolutely love this app. The developer clearly put a lot of time and effort into creating it, and it is free to use. I logged in today and was met with an onboarding screen asking me to upgrade to a new premium version with new features for a really reasonable price. Okay, sure I’m in - LET ME SUPPORT YOUR INDIE DEV WORK. The language on the splash screen suggested that the dev is transitioning to a freemium model, but there was seemingly no way to exit out of the upgrade page to update my stats. So then I assumed it’s just bad UX writing and they’re going full premium only. Again, TAKE MY MONEY - this app is already gold, of course I’ll pay. But unfortunately it appears the upgrade/paid functionality is not connecting to the App Store as clicking a paid tier (monthly, annual, or lifetime access) does absolutely nothing. The button appears to have a clicked state applied via CSS/JS (I’m assuming), but it doesn’t actually prompt an action. There’s no way to currently access my current goals OR to upgrade and utilize the new features. My best guess is that the dev accidentally (?) released a version of the app that is still in development, as the “in-app purchases” indicator is not even shown here on the App Store listing, so clearly it is not set up correctly. Also, there is no mention of these new upgrade features in the latest release notes. I’ll give the dev some grace, but ask that they revert to the previous version ASAP while they work out the kinks present in the process of connecting in-app purchases. I would happily purchase an annual subscription (and I tried multiple times) because I’m impressed with the initial version of the app and in-depth YouTube tutorial series, but i cant even use the app in its current state. This was the best skill tracker app on the App Store, so I’m willing to wait for the dev to repair the mistake. I would love to see the new features in action and like I said it’s worth the price listed in the app in my opinion. I will update my rating to 5 stars if and when something is done. The dev seems proactive, but another recent review says it’s been like this for at least 4-5 days now.
