Slugline uses the free and open Fountain screenplay format, which is nothing more than plain text. You can work on your screenplay anywhere, using any writing app. When you open it in Slugline again, everything will be there, properly formatted.
• INTEGRATED OUTLINING
Start with an outline, then seamlessly transition to writing scenes. Or jot down a placeholder for your third-act twist while you’re still crafting your opening pages. Slugline allows you to be as structured as you like, even if that means not at all.

Slugline FAQ
Is Slugline free?
Yes, Slugline is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Slugline legit?
🤔 The Slugline app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
As others have reported, Slugline is currently broken. Whenever I try to create a new screenplay, whether local or in iCloud, the app immediately crashes. I used to adore this app, but now I’m just disappointed.
Confused
I’m really confused as to how to use this. I’ve tried reading everything and YouTube tutorials still can’t understand
And I thought FD Mobile was a pain
Read raving reviews. Tried it for $19+ and it’s terrible. Not intuitive. Trying to hit return to get into the next correctly formatted section required backtracking. Not a seamless writing experience and I’ve been writing screenplays for a long time and have used almost all the mainstream software.
Love the app but it’s broken for me
For whatever reason the app crashes whenever I try to make a new file and is therefore unusable. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail and switching between local/cloud storage.
So far nothing works, but if the issue is resolved I’ll happily change my review to 5 stars.
Limited access to write a new script
I purchased Slugline for $19.99 and downloaded for IPad and used it to write my project. When I wanted to work on a new screenplay, it restricts me to open a new page. I then redownloaded the app only to lose my current work, it happens. But I do not understand that after purchasing the screenplay app that it’s now limiting. It makes no mention of upgrading to a bundle pack, I know that for the iMac you pay almost $50.00 for the software
File management could be better
I noticed the app sometimes does not sync your changes to the original file, and instead creates a separate copy of it. This then causes multiple versions of the same script to pile up in the recents section, while I really just need to maintain one version of it.
Overall, the app is better than most I’ve seen for screenwriting on phone, just hope this one aspect can also be improved.
Crashing several times an hour
I enjoy the app’s simplicity and functionality. What I don’t enjoy is how the app crashes four to five times every hour. It autosaves frequently, so a crash only deletes the latest piece (either one chunk of dialogue or description) but it’s still annoying.
Love it
I have been screenwriting on my iPad much more lately, and I've found this to be a really great app for distraction-free writing. There's very little on the page, other than your own work. It's also a very user-friendly, intuitive way to learn the ins and outs of writing in Fountain (which is simple on its own). I also love that it doesn't require a subscription.
Perfect for screenwriting on an iPad
This app is simple and intuitive and perfect for screenwriting without any distractions. It's helped me pick up writing in Fountain quite quickly. I appreciate the few templates that come with it, too, more as an example of how to incorporate "hidden" text within your writing.
abandoned?
was by far the best screenwriting app on iPad, however recently a bug has caused my scripts to become jumbled nonsense , making this app completely unusable. I tried contacting their support with no response, and considering how long it's been since the last update, I don't know when it'll be fixed. truely sad, looking for a new screenwriting app has been miserable
