Snakes of Australia Reviews

Compact, excellent text and photos

Skurwepadda on

This is an invaluable guide to Australian snakes. Unlike so many field guide apps it is far more interactive than a pdf style copy of a book. Some snakes show so much individual and geographic variation, particularly Pseudechis, that there can never enough photos in a field guide. This app is full of superb photos with multiple shots per species, each attributed with the location and photographer. The distribution maps showing validated records and presumed range are excellent (despite minor quibbles with some records and ranges). There is a brief text statement of distribution beneath each map. A larger green dot shows your location, so you can see whether you are in the range. The text is brisk and to the point, often with a useful comment on taxonomy and ecology. Finally the comparative feature showing two species at once is very handy.

A very nice and educational app. The only problem is you cannot search for a place on the maps, instead you have to try and locate it .... a search function would be useful. Overall a wonderful app!

This is a fabulous app! You can see that so much work has gone into it and it is jam-packed with all the information you need. It is such a pity that so many people feel only fear and repulsion over these beautiful and fascinating creatures. Well done!
