SETS VOLUME TO MAX ON STARTUP. UNUSABLE. UNACCEPTABLE!
The play buttons become inoperative after pausing and doing something else. Even restarting the app fails to fix the problem.
I think this app is overall an excellent replacement for the no longer working MPad (or MPod). It looks great, has a lot of functionality, seems very stable, and was easy to get set up to work. It does need a couple of tweaks—to catalogue artists that start with a “The” (as in “The Beatles”) under “B” rather than “T”, and to better handle compilations—but I expect those will get worked out with user input. If they do, my rating will change to 5 stars. (My mistake, there is an “ignore articles” feature!—rating duly changed.) If you use an MPD player like Volumio or Rune, give it a go and help it to be made into the ideal iOS controller. I think it’s pretty much there now.
I’ve used this app (and others) on my iPhone and iPad for a while now. I have a DIY MPD setup on a Pi 3 attached to my home stereo. Positives: * probably the best looking and functioning MPD clients on iOS * smart playlists * it shows recently added recordings upfront in Journal view * it manages multiple servers (not many other apps do) * syncing of settings via iCloud Negatives: * it can be super slow starting up. I think this may be related to large libraries * BUG: if you have two sets of recordings by the same artist, but the artist name has different casing (like sentence case vs. all caps) then only one version of the artist will show up and only that version’s albums * the UI isn’t consistent with the iOS HID guidelines so it looks and behaves differently, and things aren’t always obvious or intuitive Overall I think it’s a very good MPD client with room for improvement.
This app has not been useful for me. It takes forever to load only a small part in my library, a process it has to undergo every time I launch it. I never had this problem with MPod, but sadly that app is now gone.
It's a clean intuitive interface that offers an engaging experience with music. The Collection feature is excellent, and the option to show PDF booklet is handy. That said, there are still bugs. The major one that I found is, when I click on the play button over an album image, it never plays the album songs correctly. Sometimes it will start from the 7th track instead of the first one. Other times, it will start playing a random song from a different album. Even tapping on individual songs sometimes gives the same outcome. I am using Volumio 2 running on Raspberry Pi. The other issue is in displaying the song titles etc. the fonts are scaled so that the entire title fits in the designated space. While that may be fine to do in the album view where the album thumbnails are shown on a grid. However in other places like the playlist page, the long titles become almost impossible to read, and also looks ugly. I suggest keeping the font size fixed in those places and allow the titles to extend to multiple lines instead. Also, one desirable feature would be to show which song is being played in the album with a play sign next to the song. Also, no booklet is visible despite having booklet.pdf in the album folder! Update and response to developer's comment: Using the default collection URL in volumio 2 doesn't show the booklets, although the album art is displayed. Changing the URL to http://<ip address>/cover-art/ shows both the cover art and booklets. I found out, the reason wrong tracks are being played is due to the native volumio web interface interfering with Soundirok. The volumio web GUI maintains a playlist of songs that were played on it, and volumio is attempting to play songs from its own playlist while Soundirok is playing its own. Clearing the volumio playlist solves the 'wrong track playing' problem. May I suggest a dedicated forum for Soundirok where these tips and suggestions can be posted, instead of the review section.
This app has most of the features you’d expect, but it’s a little difficult to get a hang of the ui since they didn’t use the same design language as most other media player iOS apps. Unfortunately the app tends to crash when scrolling or changing views. Also when scrolling, it brings up a widget to quickly scroll to a given letter, but touching it doesn’t do anything. This is a promising little app, but it feels like beta quality.
Good App and I've recommended it to other BDP users. However, I can't get it to recognize my compilations properly which is annoying because I have many compilations in my library. A compilation shows up as a different album for every artist contained in a given compilation album no matter how I configure the App. I may have overlooked some configuration option??? By comparison the MPad App handles compilations with minor configuration. I'd also like to ignore or at least not display genres when browsing by artists. The genre(s) is displayed under the artist name with that view. I realize that's my personal taste, but I would like the option to not display the genre. This is a good App, but could be a 5 Star App with a few changes.
Beautiful way to control MPD and the contextual data in journal view is great. It's got bugs just as anything else, but the developer is very responsive, fixes things and is always adding new useful functionality. Worth way more than what is being charged for this app.
