SpectrumGen Reviews

One of the great developers of this generation

This synth could be used on an Aphex Twin record, and then used happily by kindergarteners for hours. If you need source sound for virtually ANY purpose, snap this sucker right up. Sometimes when I’m “making music,” I come to a point where I’m just aimlessly pressing buttons, turning knobs sifting through sample libraries. If i put SpectrumGen in front of me, suddenly my nothing is given purpose. This developer has impressed the heck out of me and I have most of their apps, have not been let down yet. Thank you!

Wonderful

If only sharing was easier this would be a 5 star.

Spectrum Experiment App

This thing is really FUN to mess with !!! Be sure to click on the little wrench to right, to try things like turning echo (reverb?) on or off. You can easily hear how different one set of frequencies at arbitrary amplitudes sounds distinct from the sounds produced by another set. Experiment -- your brain will like it and you'll a lot just intuitively...

Very cool spectrum synth!

Amazing little synth for the price. It's positively bursting with sci fi sounds and sonic possibility. The only thing holding back a five star review is the fact that the low frequencies are represented with the color black--on a black background! You can hardly see what you're drawing / manipulating down there. A more neutral background color could easily fox this. It would be really nice to be able to save patches too.

Six stars!

I keep coming back to this app. If you like making funny noises and / or want a cheap source of custom spacey sound fx, this is right up your alley.

Experiment with spectral timbre generation

Henry Lowengard on

This program gives you a simple, monophonic spectral synth. You can change the spectrum as you play, and multitouch will alternate between your fingers' parameters. Recording the sound will paste it on the Clipboard, where it can be picked up by a number of programs. Its controls are exactly the same as PixelWave's, the main difference being that you are drawing the spectrum instead of the waveform. So: it's pretty simple. Suggestions for the next release: the low frequency end of the spectrum - which is much more important for building up a fundamental in the timbre - should NOT be colored black - it's nearly impossible to see. Some people may want to save out the spectrum and setup as patches - I realize it's difficult in iOS without good document manipulation support. Similarly, some may want to play the wave via MIDI. So, there's room for a more complicated version of this program.
