Description

US English voice version of Speech Sounds on Cue!

Speech therapy treatment software for articulation difficulty caused by apraxia of speech or other speech difficulties. The aim of this app is to increase the intensity of treatment for people with apraxia, combining J. Rosenbek's integral stimulation approach with B. Hill's carrier phrase facilitation drills.

This is the US version of the application, with all audio and video recorded by the US speech pathologist Terri Nichols, MS, CCC-SLP, Clinical consultant to Bungalow Software, Virginia USA who also recorded for the Windows/Mac version.

This application shows how to produce speech sounds and words and encourages speech, even in people with severe speech difficulties. This easy to use iPad application contains over 500 videos, sound clips and colour photos designed to help adults and children to produce the consonant speech sounds in isolation, in words and in sentences. Now includes recording, playback, rhyming words and randomisation.

This software is especially helpful to those who need to hear and see a sound made, for example, patients with motor speech difficulty due to speech apraxia (verbal or oral apraxia affecting speech).

Provides multimedia full-motion video cues, for independent speech practice. Cues are for individual phonemes (sounds) as well as full words.

Each exercise targets one word, divided into 20 consonant
positions. For each exercise it provides:

* Color photo
* Auditory and written trigger phrase
* Written word
* Video clip of a speaker
* Records and plays back patient's voice with model sound for comparison.

This app enables intensive independent practice for Motor Speech Disorders, with immediate auditory feedback.

Not enough volume

Tyuinbc on

I like the app but can only use it with clients who have excellent hearing. The prerecorded stimulus voice is too low, even with max volume, for some clients. Tried external speakers, but the only voice that resulted in increased volume, was the clients voice as they verbalized after the microphone cue. For those that can hear the stimulus voice, the app offers excellent opportunities for self practice and correction.

Great Application/product

Sergio A. Garcia on

My family and I have been using the original desktop version for 6+ years and it has been really helpful. The iPad version works well, but what makes it better is the interactivity using the screen rather than the mouse. I would recommend this product in either version for anyone that is suffering from Aphasia specially when it is just starting. I have seen vast improvement on my mother’s speech since using SpeechSounds on Cue post stroke.

Great therapy tool

Blondchick12 on

The videos are great and I have been able to use a few of the other features to address goals.

Horrible

Fufukid on

I dislike this app for promoting beer to young adults and teenagers. I hope to sue the makers, and remove them from the App Store.

Videos are a great start

specialappssk on

It's good, but for a specific kind of user, so keep that in mind. It could be improved to make it more universal. The video modeling aspect has made this very useful with some of my young students. They absolutely love hearing their voice recorded too. I love how you can jump to any word in the list; however the app has some caveats- it would also be much more practical to choose exactly which words to use in a session- this way I could use the next button to jump to the next word I had chosen, instead of going to the drop down list each time. Another big issue with this lack of word selection, is that some of the words are not appropriate for use in a school setting- the words are geared toward adults. I am glad to have it, but for the price it really should have more flexibility- data tracking, ability to save "profiles" of some sort with a student's sounds would be super too, for example. Still a valuable tool for the videos with instructions on how to make each sound.

Great resource!

This app is great for both adults and children! Very helpful for home practice, too!

cuts out

dnascarlet on

i have used this as a software product and loved it. i can't say that i love this app as much as it cuts out 30% of the time by not completing the sentence and fading out. definitely a problem.

Hmm.

If you have a student/client at the age of working on /r/, is "bottle of rum" really the best choice?? Come on.

Great speech tool

Aknight53 on

This app is very helpful in therapy especially with my students with autism. The video modeling is invaluable and the recording feature is a plus. I WISH it had CVCV words as well, that would make it a perfect app in my opinion.

expensive, limited therapy tool

JLESLP on

I really wanted to love this app and only spent the money hoping it would give my student his "Ah-Ha!" moment practicing his /r/ sounds. Sadly, it did not. This app is limited to practicing speech sounds only in the initial position of words. It is extremely helpful for many of my students on the autism spectrum who LOVE the video modeling and their attention is immediately sustained. Great for first introducing a target speech sound and each sound has up to 30 practice items. It would be helpful if this offered a data collection tool to track progress and offer practice items in the medial and final position of words, seeing as how it is so expensive! I'm disappointed that the /r/ sound is a vocalic "er" for the model. Works great for some of my students but unable to use it once the initial position is mastered.
