However, the number of vowels depicted are insufficient (there are about 18 vowels in English if you include the 'r'-colored vowels). They completely left out the /ɔ/, as in 'caught, bought, saw, all' and substitute /ɑ/ as in 'hot', which is probably due to the dialect of the woman who is modeling the phonemes. She most likely doesn't have the vowel /ɔ/ in her personal repertoire, so it is just omitted. However, the vowels in 'cot' vs. 'caught' are separate phonemes in Standard American and RP English! I purchased the R-sound Combinations for an extra 99 cents which includes the diphthongs with the post-vocalic 'r', but what they call the Initial R is not the consonant, rather the post-vocalic 'r' as in 'word, turn, learn, girl, fern'. They left out the retroflexed liquid /r/ as in 'red'.
