Description

The original best-selling mobile word game, reimagined!
Pick your words wisely! As you play, more tiles rise from the bottom of the screen! It'll take all of your lexicological wits, and tactical know-how to keep your columns down. If any letters make it to the top row, it's game over.
Classic modes Daily Tower, Tower, Puzzle, Rush and Zen are all back and packed with brand new BONUS TILES that double (or more!) word values.
Joining them is the brand new Search mode, plus ExPuzzle, Double Puzzle, Bubble Puzzle, and Blitz mode!
That’s eleven modes in all!
Plus iCloud Backup, Highscores reported for games even while in-progress, detailed statistics for every mode, Game Center leaderboards, and achievements.
—————————
It’s pretty wild to be revisiting my first hit game, SpellTower. I can't believe it's almost 10 years since it released. The first iPhones it ran on had a 3.5 inch screen and 320 x 480 resolution! I literally did a double-take at that resolution when I looked it up.
A funny part about having a hit game is people talk to you about it. With SpellTower I heard about grandparents playing the game every morning to keep their minds sharp, parents playing it with their kids, expectant mothers playing it to get through morning sickness, and countless sightings of strangers playing it on subways, planes — even elevators.
I got into games because I wanted to connect with people in a positive way. I wanted to help people think critically and come away with more than they arrived with. Games felt like a way to do this on a huge scale, but the stories I heard from SpellTower players taught me that games do so much more for people than I ever expected.
I’m deeply grateful that SpellTower has been able to be something special for so many people, and I think that’s why so many people have shared it with friends, loved ones, and strangers on elevators.
Even though SpellTower is a game I made, it’s really barely mine anymore. The experiences and love I had for the game has been outstripped by its audiences a thousandfold. I thought a lot about all the experiences that people have had with the game when I was designing this new version. I hope it gives everyone who’s loved the game a reason to pick it back up again and share it amongst their friends and family.

Good and Bad

I play a lot but I get frustrated by the ration of vowels to consonants. Also, when they shove on the black squares. When they changed the dictionary they cut off certain words. I found words in the dictionary that it wouldn’t accept. Also, the dictionary no longer lets you loom up words. I used to learn words that way.

Crashed again

I love the game but it has crashed twice now requiring me to delete the app and then reinstall. Not happy!

*EDITED* Love it but wish I hadn’t paid

*Edited to add: I just found the zen mode! 5 stars! I’ve had the free version of this game for several years and I’ve loved it. The puzzle game is my favorite because I can find words at my own pace and I can keep it going for a really long time and it’s still challenging but not too challenging. I’ve even had a puzzle round going for a couple years when I would just play occasionally. For some reason a few days ago I got impatient with the ads and just caved and bought the game, but it immediately got way harder with the 5 and 6 letter rules. It’s frustrating when I’m finding good words but they still don’t work because they’re not 6 letters. I wish I could go back to the unpaid version just so it could be a little easier. Or if there was a way to make there be different levels of difficulty that I could choose from that would make the game perfect!

No support

I paid for the ad free version. That should entitle me to support. However, when I report problems with the app like scores not updating or the puzzle not updating I get no response. The developer couldn’t care less about the user.

So many ads

Big Zippee on

So many ads. Long ads with confusing buttons too. Not a simple x to click once done watching. And they pop up mid game. I can understand having ads between attempts once I lose a turn, but they just show up mid play. There is an option to pay $ to remove ads. But I did not select. Otherwise the game is fun and well designed. Just overkill on the ads. Unfortunately I uninstalled a lot 30 mins after downloading. Maybe I’ll come back and try the ad free version sometime.

Stop hiding behind in-app purchases

Pearceorama on

United States

When I first launched the game, I really enjoyed it. The gameplay is good. It’s a well made app. But I will not recommend this game because it is yet another entry in the App Store that hides its cost behind in-app purchasing instead of just putting the cost of the app on the store page. This garbage needs to stop. Just put that information right there in the store. Don’t waste my time with a download and loads of ads. Put better videos and screenshots of the game in the store page gallery so I get a better idea of what I’m getting in to. Or put a demo on the store instead. Either way, please stop with this baiting garbage. I will pay for games I like. I want to know what the cost is upfront. It’s not hard.

Pretty good game, full game mode features definitely not worth the money

So I was really curious to see what other game modes there were because I really enjoyed the original 3 but they’re pretty lame and definitely not worth 5 bucks. Not a purchase I would recommend to anyone.

Dictionary Update

priddick94 on

United States

I often try to use a word that IS a word and it would say that it’s not. For example, TASED. That’s the past tense of TASE. The game’s dictionary should be updated.

Disappointing

Done and sad on

United States

I loved this game when I got it eight years ago. Tower mode was a simple, pleasant way to pass the time. If I wanted to be challenged there were the other modes. Now, too much sound and visual distractions. Too many ads. If it were closer to the previous style, I would be willing to pay for it. Had to delete the app. And there is nothing else out there to replace it. Sad
