Developed by co-creators Michelle Ayres and Carol Vivyan, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists, STOPP APP is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in a nutshell! CBT has an impressive evidence base and is proven to be effective with a wide range of problems.
Use STOPP APP to help you to change vicious, negative cycles of behaviour and positively enable you to make changes to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to live a more skilful, less impulsive life.
Notice when you feel the URGE to ACT. Stop. Use STOPP app first. Then decide. Chose the best course of action.
STOPP is the first skill of The Decider (32 skills) and The Decider Life Skills (12 skills). It was initially developed with feedback from clients in adult mental health services. Strongly grounded in theory, the app is always ready to help you make positive choices.

This is a good app for those who find it difficult to use stopp in the moment. It would be even better if the questions for each step were said out loud too, instead of just saying “observe” or “pull back”.

This is a useful thinking tool when in a triggered state for those who are very ill or traumatised and need to have a simple method of combatting the effects of their trauma on their immediate mental health.

I find it very helpful. I use it to touch base with my thinking, to STOPP & consider what’s going on, what am I’m obsessing about, worrying about. Am I being really hard on myself. Am I being unnecessarily fearful. Personally I think it’s great. My thinking is my problem & this helps me step back. I have suffered most of my life with fear, negative self crucifying self criticism & irrational worry. It’s been tough living in my head ! The steps on this app help me no end. Thanks for developing it.

I understand the concept but it hasn’t got much to the app , at first when in state of panic anger and depressive stages I go through , going through the app helped , after a couple tries it got repetitive , would definitely be better if maybe it had different categories and questions to how your feeling so it can give different coping strategies etc , recommend giving it a try though
