Description

Unlike great musical productions, great songs do not depend on amazing sounds and effects. You can write one on a beach, using a guitar, pen and paper.
Studiolab is a tool for writing songs. Start with an empty composition or with a known song. Use musical patterns for filling the song with music, so you can make major changes with a few, small edits. Experiment with the structure, chord progressions, musical patterns, melodies, arrangements and lyrics until you are satisfied. You can even collaborate with friends.
You can export PDF scores, MIDI and audio. Create and share your own sounds and composition templates. Almost all Studiolab features can be used offline. The iPhone and iPad versions have the same features, but the iPad is naturally easier to use.
Studiolab is a huge, evolving project for composing music. Most features are described in the in-app documentation.

I believe this has the potential to be awesome. But I cannot seem to figure it out. I do not know if this is the fault of the program not functioning as desired or if the program is simply not user friendly enough. I cannot seem to get out of the Demo mode to write and compose my own work. The tutorial bring only bring you to the website that reopens the app, so that proved to be unhelpful for me. I really do believe this has the potential to be awesome and exactly the app I have been searching for, I just think some upgrades need to be made. :)

iPhone 6, iOS 8+ Doesn't matter how long you wait, Studiolab never gets past its loading screen. It shows a progress bar that just flickers and never fills. It's useless.

doesn't work.

Because a lot of thought has gone into this app already, clearly - and because I was looking for a good MIDI-based compositional tool. But honestly I still have no idea what the heck is going on; where to start, basic workflow steps, any of that. The "demo" doesn't demonstrate any of these as far as I can tell. (PS: having worked with a few full DAWs, this app's intuitiveness is right up there with Logic and PT... As in, zero. Totally unintuitive.) Further, you start getting nag messages about some kind of points scheme where certain features can be unlocked with an IAP. Unlock able Points? In a *music creation* platform?! So now this is Flappy Studio or something? Finally, there is a user community (apparently) but they're on Facebook, which I ditched a long time ago. Without launching into a debate about the merits of social media, let's just say that any app dev using FB as either homepage or hosted forum is sending a strong message of unprofessionalism IMHO. Deleted for now.
