Subsurface-mobile is an iOS dive log application based on Subsurface, the best free open source dive log application available on Windows, Mac and Linux. Subsurface-mobile allows you to access your dive log on your tablet or phone, edit the data and even download new dive information from many Bluetooth LE enabled dive computers. Using a free Subsurface Cloud Storage account you can synchronize your dive data with the Subsurface desktop application (while significantly increasing the usefulness, the cloud account is not required to use Subsurface-mobile).
To get support from the developers, please use the in-app menu entry "Ask for support"
Please check out the Subsurface-mobile user manual: https://subsurface-divelog.org/documentation/subsurface-mobile-v3-user-manual (also available from within the app)
Subsurface-mobile is free and open source. No ads, no commercial anything. And it comes with free cloud storage (if you decide to use that - it's optional). Your data aren't used for anything, nothing gets monetized.

Subsurface FAQ
Is Subsurface free?
Yes, Subsurface is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Subsurface legit?
✅ The Subsurface app appears to be high-quality and legitimate. Users are very satisfied.
Subsurface is an excellent dive log and dive planning software. This IOS version allows you to view your log, or manually add dives. For planning and downloading new dives you'll need to use the Windows/Mac/Linux app but this mobile version works as a great way to carry around your log without printing.
Decent but can’t read Genesis Centauri
Good logging capabilities but does not detect Genesis Centauri or the Deep6 Excusion despite being in the list. By comparison Dive Log had no problems detecting and downloading these devices. Looks to be an example of you get what you pay for.
Amazing dive log!
Thank you for such a great FLOSS dive log. You’re the best ❤️
Still the best
Love Subsurface and have for many years. Subsurface is the cleanest easiest way to log your dives, with lots of robust features including cloud sync.
The mobile client is great but there are as always features I would like to see someday.
I would love to:
- Be able to add images to the timeline profile like desktop client. These days they are cloud synced one way or another, or even taken on phone, so readily available.
- Be able to quickly/easily capture start/end gps locks. I know there is some function there but it’s not easy imo.
- add dive site based on GPS information tagged to image (this how I started reliable grabbing location when traveling).
- easy composite image of dive info on picture or shoeing pictures on time line for social media and to be album cover.
- a way for a buddy to digitally counter sign the log. Most divers don’t care but anyone doing professionally stuff has logging requirements.
Love Subsurface but it needs an update per iOS
Will an update be coming out soon? iOS keeps wanting me to delete/keep it since it needs an update since the last iOS update.
Great free dive log software
I got this software after many problems getting the software from my dive computer to sync. I use a PC to import dives (my dive computer didn't do Bluetooth)and the iPad to view. Software captures a lot of info. After some difficulties getting everything to sync, the developer quickly helped me resolve issues. So much nicer than a paper dive log!
Very Impressed +++
Just starting out using this program and already I’m impressed. Dirk personally resolved an issue I was having! I finally can see all my dives from manuel inputs and 2 dive computers in one app! Thank you again and I can’t wait to fully explore your APP!
Finally have decent dive software
After being frustrated with the Aqualung dive software and the MySSI software I decided to give Subsurface a try. I am very impressed. I use it on my iPhone, MacBook Pro and my Dell laptop running Windows 10. Using the cloud based storage all three stay synced with each other. Being able to import and export in multiple formats is a huge plus.
One of my favorite features is when I add a picture of the mooring site I took before the start of the dive, Subsurface will pull in the GPS coordinates out out the pictures EXIF. This makes creating dive sites in the log incredibly easy. I was able export the dive site and send them to my wife which made her logging very simple.
Read the manual. There is so much this software can do.
Things I would like to see improved upon:
Exporting to other platforms like mySSI.
Being able set a default gear setup. Tanks, suit etc.
frame sizing on the Windows platform has some issues.
Manual could use some work.
Being Open Source I’m sure many features with be added.
Thank you developers for creating this wonderful piece of software.
Best overall dive log app out there...
Open source app that is compatible across multiple platforms and provides FREE cloud storage to support synchronization across all of your platforms. Plays well with just about every dive computer out there.
I was also able to import previous dives from a OEM application
Super support available via forum.
Awesome for a free dive log
To the developers: great job on providing divers an inexpensive method of keeping their logs up to date across multiple platforms. The existing functions meet my basic diving needs, however there are several suggestions that I think would be very benificial, which I assume you all may or may not have heard already.
Certification tracker: It would be amazing to have a function where we could quickly look at our records of past diving certifications, instead of divers having to carry a physical copy of their diver ID card everywhere they go. Please consider this!
Uploading media via mobile device: this would be an absolute killer feature if you all could incorporate it. Even if it’s just the ability to upload a few photos or a quick clip to a specific dive. It would allow divers to keep a memory jogger of where they went diving and with whom.
Syncing functions: I was fairly confused the first time I used the syncing functions via the desktop and mobile app, but eventually figured it out. However, I could see someone making the mistake of syncing from the cloud to their mobile device when in fact they want to do the opposite (mobile to the cloud, especially after manually logging dives on the mobile app during the time they were out of cellular data range). To prevent any confusion, I would recommend renaming the syncing functions so they are a bit more clearer to the lowest common denominator.
PDF print out clarity: not sure if this is just my computer or a function you could tweak in your software, but the pdf print out was slightly blurry. I could see large pixels when I attempted to print my current logbook.
Other than that, keep up the good work! I’ll definitely be using this app to log my future dives.
