Sun Journal ePaper Reviews

Unusable

Completely unusable. Every time I open the app it tells me my WiFi connection is too weak, even though I have very good WiFi and works for everything else. Even after turning WiFi off it’s now it’s also telling me my login is incorrect even though I’m able to sign in using the same credential on the website. Sun journal is trash. Raising the prices after taking away Monday papers forcing users to go online and can’t even get that up and running.

Useable, But Could Be Better

The App services about six different e-Papers. We subscribe to the "Western Maine" paper. For Western Maine, the downloads do not work at all; progress indicator for a download just spins and nothing is saved. Crossword puzzles (and previous-day answers) are chopped at the bottom when printing from an iOS device. The old App had settings where we could choose to automatically download papers when they were opened (so could always read from the local device, which is faster and less glitchy) plus we could conveniently take the paper with us to places with limited cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity, and still read the paper (once it was downloaded). There were also settings to choose how many of the most recent Editions we wanted to retain on the device; old editions were automatically deleted. In the old App, each article could be opened up and viewed in a separate frame/window; in this new App, only certain articles can be opened that way so you have to manually enlarge the whole page (expanding with finger movements) until you can read the article, then manually shrink the paper before you can move to the next page. Most of these issues have been reported via the Feedback feature, but I haven't seen any progress on them.
