“Beautiful and an absolute delight to use” — “Easy to follow interface and alarms” — “Pretty damn cool”
Suntime works in landscape and portrait mode on iPad. Use your current location, or select one manually. The app is lightweight and works offline: all astronomical calculations are done on your device. It uses Background App Refresh to schedule alarms.
“Wonderful visualization of Solar + Lunar cycles in a very intuitive format. Animations are superb”
There’s more to explore inside: including a glossary and tooltips with contextual information like the position, angle, illumination, and magnitude of the Moon, the visibility of eclipses, and the length of twilight.

I love the clean simplicity of this app and how the information is displayed, yet with lots to discover and much joy to be found in doing so. The developers have obviously put a lot of thought into the navigation and visuals and I live the little touches, such as the direction the "eye" looks depending on where you are in the timeline, or the progressive disclosure or hiding of information depending on the timescale. Just perfect.
My one suggestion would be to offer a range of alert sounds that can be user-selected and assigned to different events. Right now there is only one (very pleasant) bell, but it would be great to differentiate events by sound alone if possible. Perhaps in a future update? Thank you!
Incredible app!
For me this is probably the nicest app find in recent memory. It's very well made and it's apparent that it's made for iOS as it is very fluid and native-feeling.
There is a good amount of depth in there even if it seems pretty basic at first glance. It's a great companion to plan planetary observations and just figuring out how the solar system works. The notes feature is nice to help remember to check some things out at a specific time.
And the price can't be beat. It's a steal at about 4$ (CAD) and I appreciate that it's not another subscription-based app (for no good reason) like most apps these days. That said, I'd gladly pay for an in-app upgrade if there are major features coming.
One thing I'd really like to see added is at least some weather information (from WeatherKit, for example) and cloudiness / transparency / seeing ratings to help plan sky observations. Of course having a full weather dashboard in there would be awesome, but I also understand that one of the strengths of the app is it's simplicity. Even though I don't like subscriptions, I'd be OK paying a low monthly / yearly fee to cover the use of the API and get more relevant info in a single app.
Really loving the experience
Beautiful, curiously simple app. Draws you in and provides a different perspective on a calendar. Looking forward to discovering more ways to integrate it into my routine!
Amazing App!
THIS IS A CRAZY APP!
Except for one little problem:
I cannot go to the BCE section!
Ive tried twice and the app crashed.
Also can you make it a little quicker to go to the BCE section plz.
Can you please add Planetary Transits please!
It’s my favourite app on all my devices
(Planning 4 an eclipse in 2022 and 2024)
Thanks
7.4 stars!!
Suntime Funtime!
Love this app. Great for reminders and magic hour 💛 I look to the sky more often thanks to Suntime.
Great!
Getting better as it evolves! Thanks!
Best app ever
Love this app, its my favourite app on my phone right now. Im obsessed with this new knowledge I now have about the solar system and seasons. Its 100% upped my small talk from comments on the weather to interesting moon cycle conversations!
Relaxing
I check this app during work. it’s a nice reminder that there’s an outside world when you’re stuck at home working long hours.
Informative and Interesting
I really enjoy this app. There’s lots of different ways you can look at both sun and moon transits. It has really helped me visually understand the cycles in our planetary system. I also like having the alerts on, as it makes me feel connected to the universe. Great, easy to use, interesting, and fun app!
