Symblify is a creative life coaching app that helps you to deal with your difficult problems on your own. Organize your thoughts, change perspective and get solutions in a simple and intuitive way.
A life coach in your pocket for the price of a self-help book.
>>> What is Symblify good for?
Do you have something that bothers you in your career, relationships, family or personal development? Just start a Symblify session, and in 20 minutes you will see things in a clearer and more organized way, from a different perspective and with a tangible next step in your hand.
>>> Why is Symblify different from other self-help applications?
- Because it uses powerful symbol cards to activate the right brain and let you use your whole mind (based on neuroscience and Gestalt psychology).
- Because it goes deeper than habits. It helps you understand your true motives, feelings and priorities, change the way you see your situations and, through that, find unexpected solutions to seemingly difficult problems.
- Because you don’t need to use it regularly to experience tangible changes in your life. Sometimes one Symblify session is enough to start a change process in you. It's available in your pocket, and you can use it any time you get stuck, need an inspiration or want to change something in your life.
>>> How does Symblify work?
-> Organize your thoughts and feelings by symbol cards
You can have any type of topic - a problem, a question, an idea – you would like to think through and take a step forward. You just open the app, start a new session and phrase your topic in the form of a sentence. You will then be asked questions and you can select from randomly appearing symbol cards in order to answer these questions. Symbols awaken your right brain and make those resources in your mind available which are usually in sleep mode.
-> Julia, your life coach in Symblify
Through the session you are guided by a life coach avatar, Julia. Her speech is modeled on professional life coaches’ sentences and questions, and is based on a solid psychological background. She encourages you to speak about your thoughts and feelings, allowing you to change perspectives and find new ideas. She helps you to think about your situation in an organized way, while your discoveries, solutions and next steps are done by you yourself.
-> Concrete results and next steps
At the end of each session you are one step forward, compared to where you were when you started the session. This step is sometimes enough to solve the situation. Other times you have a new question emerged, and you are free to put it in a new Symblify session. You can then discuss your discoveries and resolutions with a friend or a family member.
You get a beautiful and compact visual memo about your session that you can use as a reminder or as a starting point for your next Symblify session. You can also use Symblify’s simple and intuitive calendar function to plan your actions and track your tasks.
>>> What do you get when you download Symblify?
-> Symblify application with unlimited sessions (one-time-fee, no subscription, no ads)

Hmm....where do I start?
My first impression is that updates / improvements are slow in coming (this is judging by critical reviews written 2 years ago). The app is not packed with options; it's a little difficult to explain if you haven't yet used it. For example, when you want to symblify a topic you want to work on, there are currently only 2 categories to choose from. Once you choose the category, you are prompted to choose one card out of 3 that may be applicable to your situation. The symbols are presented as 3 different cards in a series of about 5 (every card in each session is different). Bearing in mind that I paid $10 for an extra pack of cards, sometimes none of the cards are applicable to my situation at all.
I don't like the constant prompts to speak out loud (I get it, and don't need to be reminded every 10 seconds). The prompts pop up over the display and break my concentration. Also, my surroundings are not always conducive to sharing my personal business out loud.
You are prompted to arrange the cards into shapes or resize them as desired. This is difficult with limited display real estate (which is understandable due to the nature of the app). But what makes it even more difficult are the pop-up prompts. Having said that, this app is best used on an ipad. I have never been able to arrange the cards into a shape on my phone. This isn't a real problem for me because I like to view things in sequence anyway, but even then it is ponderous to rearrange them.
I flash on heavy weather ahead as far as paying for additional categories and packs of cards. So far it's only been $10, but who knows where it will end. Because of limited availability of additional options, I will almost feel obligated to pay for additional categories and cards as they come even though I may not fully benefit from them.
Also, sometimes the app freezes when I click on certain things and I have to force-close the app. This happened once in the middle of a session.
This review is intended to be construed as constructive criticism. The concept is truly brilliant and I would love to see this app grow. I think the cost of the cards and categories should be reduced. If 10 more packs of cards / categories become available, the maximum I would pay for this app would be $20-$30 more and I wouldn't be able to benefit from all of the features offered.
It kind of makes me want to look for a box set of basic pictures somewhere, or draw pictures on index cards. I'm creative and
Initially it was great. Awesome concept.
However there were a few apparent and immediate issues:
- They have you speak out loud, but they should actually be having it record into the microphone making a voice transcription would be nice.
- You have to pay more for upgraded questions and answers. This isn’t clear until after you’ve purchased it.
- I wanted a friend to check this app out and sent him money to purchase it. He bought it but then it never worked for him, it wouldn’t open. We have the same iPhone software versions.
- cost of app overall is too expensive for what you get, especially with all the kinks/bugs. There shouldn’t be extra charges for additional self behavior questions or additional picture packs, but if it’s a must to keep business going, SLASH the prices or this app will never catch on in mainstream at these prices. Find a way to make it a better value.
5 for idea, 2 for execution.
I do like the concept however the app is terrible. Paying premium price you expect to get premium quality, however som buttons/items do not work, the pop up windows are beyond the iPhone screen so you can’t close / really read what’s there, pinching to zoom cards works every other time, crushes all the time.
Cheaper and more effective than a therapist
I understand why you may be skeptical about how moving pictures would solve your problems.
But in half an hour, I figured out a problem that had stumped me for years. Now I have a plan to resolve it.
This app is the best $15 you will ever spend on helping yourself. I know it was for me.
Energizing!
I used Symblify for a time management issue I’d went through several times before. Now this app gave me the energy to do something instead of thinking it over and over again. I’ve already started to implement my decisions and experience the surprise in my environment ;)
Helped me slow down finally
I am grateful to find this tool. It was refreshing to stop and get clear about myself. I am used to my everyday rush, I don’t like it, but I couldn’t find a method I’m OK with to start to slow down (I’m not into meditation, yoga, etc.) Now I have it! :)
Beautiful design and perfect UI
It’s so easy to use this app. No ads, no innecessary menus or popups. And it gives exactly what it promises. I like to spend some time with it to think through what’s important. It’s like meditation, but more focused on a specific goal.
Incredibly original!
What a crazy idea and it still works! You just visualize your problem by symbol cards, and then solve it just by moving them on the screen. Unbelievable! And the symbol cards work very well, I love them.
It’s like drawing a cartoon about my life
My favorite part is when you choose the symbols for your situation. And then when you move them on the screen and talk about your situation, it’s really like creating a cartoon about my life. I love zooming in the symbols, and covering those I don’t like to see… :) The whole app has a really funny and easy atmosphere. I love it!
Funny name but very useful!
At first I thought the name was misspelled or something… But I really liked the video so I took my chances and downloaded it. I don’t regret it. It’s so simple to use and it made me think through some difficult stuff in my life I would probably never have dealt with.
