Works as Intended! Only Negative is the Limited API Requests, which I feel would be somewhat easily solvable through the implementation of a “Personal API Key” section of the settings to allow individuals whom know how to generate and use one to do so. That way it would essentially overwrite the App’s API Key in favor for the Personal Key, which would hopefully negate the small issue of Syndromi’s API Key being overused. For the people whom have no clue how to use a personal key, nothing would change.
Gotta say, this app is clean and functional and manages to have a great balance between form and function.
Only way I can get this app to play anything to use the share sheet to open a video from the normal YouTube app into this one. Even then, it’s extremely finicky if you want it to play in the background. Video will pause for some reason randomly and not be able to be resumed from control center. Search doesn’t work.
Every time I try to use the app I get errors that the YouTube api has reached it allowed limit or the developer’s authentication to the api is bad. Haven’t got past an empty screen yet.
When you login it only ever says YouTube limited requests for this app. Waste of time.
Loving the app so far, I’m curious to know when the update is coming where the search feature will be added? My only qualm is just being able to view your subscription feed on the app. Aside from that, it runs smoothly and is a great solution for iPhone users to use PIP for YouTube videos!
So I like YouTube, what I don’t like is the official app, so when I saw this I was pretty intrigued I shelled out the $3 and gave it a try and It seems like with some more development this could be a great alternative to the official YouTube app Right now it’s definitely in an early stage and doesn’t seem ideal to daily drive though Comments and thumbnails sometimes don’t load, resolution is stuck at 480p or auto, not entirely sure but It looks kind of blurry and I can’t change it And I can’t find a way to play videos outside of full screen, so I can’t browse comments while I watch a video Dark mode only works when it’s enabled system wide and the UI feels a bit clunky and odd to use right now You can’t search for things but you can view videos from your subscriptions When a video is paused and taken out of full screen it shows suggested videos on the bottom of the player which looks kind of ugly But I should give credit where credit is due, You get an ad free experience and Picture in Picture support which is great, You can also bring up the share menu on videos which is a nice touch With feature updates and improved stability this has potential to be a great way to watch YouTube on iOS and I hope to see its continued support
Thought this app could see other videos but it’s only ones you’re subbed to and the layout seems like a kiddish app. But hopefully other people find this more app more useful.
Bought this app after hearing about it on Reddit. It definitely has a nice interface and is great for channels you’re already subscribed to, and having PiP makes it an awesome alternative to YouTube’s app. You cannot interact with videos by voting on them, and you can read but not leave comments. Not a big deal to me. However, there is no search or discoverability in this app which really leaves a lot of functionality on the table as far as I’m concerned. A lot of my YouTube time is spent looking things up on a whim; not being able to do that means I can’t replace the YT app with this one. And I would, if it had search, because I like that it uses the iOS media player and the functions that brings (i.e. PiP). I don’t regret the $3; here’s hoping the app will gain some additional features.
