Taio - Markdown & Text Actions

The app gives me easy access to the files, wherever they may be—contrary to other similar apps, where file location often was a bit of a mystery.

Hands down – the best MD editor on iOS. It maximises note taking efficiency and provides powerful Actions that to automate the rest of the workflow, with clips to store ideas and snippets of information to use later – does not have alternatives with such suite of features. Although, it has a MAJOR drawback for PC + iOS users – iCloud sync. DO NOT USE ICLOUD ON PC – it messes up notes and files, as well as config files of other MD editors like Obsidian. That’s especially true when one tries to share folders with other users to cooperate. Can only recommend Dropbox to sync for PC users, and sadly – Taio doesn’t support dropbox integration and will not support in the near future. Thus – only 4/5 as other editors such as 1Writer do it flawlessly.

Nice on iOS, slow and clumsy on macOS. But at least it's available on both so files can be accessed anywhere.

It's not perfect, and I fear the clipping section may become superfluous (though I'm willing to be proved wrong), but the fundamentals of the editor are very sound, and I'm looking forward to further developments. The iOS Markdown editor space needs more competition. I would love to see the ability to drag tabs to create a new window, opening folders in-place (as well as individual files), support for hashtags, and also a live Markdown preview renderer. The developers may also wish to look at the "Obsidian" knowledge base app (for Desktop), as it is currently underserved by native mobile applications, and wouldn't require too many options to partially cater to this market, which is all that is needed.

A cross between a text editor and an automator (like Shortcuts)— Taio is a solid app with a lot of functionality. It's entering into a niche that's dominated by a couple of other heavyweight competitors, but does a good job of standing up alongside those others, particularly bearing in mind that it's only just getting started. The kind of automation Taio offers is addictive, as you'll know if you've ever dabbled with the Shortcuts app— it's essentially drag and drop programming that offers you the facility to write your own functions to do useful things with the text of a note, from text transformations (e.g. change case) to list management and manipulation, and even the ability to push your text on to other applications via URL schemes. Even though there are a few other apps in the same editor/automator space, Taio offers a few unique functions. The way it foregrounds access to the clipboard as dedicated page in the interface is useful, and the fact that you can view your notes as mind-maps (where headings = nodes) is unusual for pure note-takers. Anyone who isn't used to this kind of editor could be quite happy just using this for managing notes with its clean and well-designed interface, but anyone willing to dig a little deeper will be rewarded with functionality that's pretty much only limited by their imagination and creativity. It's the kind of app that you can make your own with just a little effort.
