Tampa Bay Times FAQ
Is Tampa Bay Times free?
Yes, Tampa Bay Times is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Tampa Bay Times legit?
⚠️ The Tampa Bay Times app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
Please test each update BEFORE releasing it! It’s not acceptable to have the public test your software. I would venture to say that ar least 30% of your users read the paper on an iPad, yet the touch response on IPad is a disaster. There is no way to change preferences to “double touch to go to article mode” and any brush of the screen sends you to article mode.
Other readers have experienced the ridiculous instability of the log in and the “suggested account” is one I haven’t used for years!🤷🏼♂️
I don’t know whose idea it was to eliminate live links to the continued article, but it was a silly and very unhelpful change!
There is more, but I hope I have made my point that the app requires much more testing by someone in the developer’s office, before release!
Terrible
App crashes regularly. Often cannot even get through two articles without a crash. Clunky to navigate. App does not contain full photos. For instance, in a photo essay story on Hurricane Milton, the photos were not accessible- you had to go to website version. If the TBT intends to be a 21st century news enterprise, they need an app on par with other news orgs.
Unreliable, clunky, and dated
I am a daily reader of the Tampa Bay Times and use the app over the website, as the website interface is inundated with ads. The app, however, has always and continues to have numerous annoying user interface issues. The app doesn’t remember text size setting changes, so each time you navigate to a new article you have to change the text again. And articles do no display inline photos - even though articles frequently reference those photos - which makes it very difficult to understand and follow the reporting at times. For such an esteemed newspaper the app they provide for customers is disappointing and embarrassing.
Can’t see photos in stories
When reading articles on the app, I can’t see the photos.
Great Newspaper, Bad App
It's been really annoying to be logged out regularly, constantly signing back in to read...anything.
Now it just won't let me log in. I input my email address & password, click 'continue'...and everything clears and I can do it again.
I can log in fine on a web browser, so sometimes I do that...but basically the non-functionality of the app means I get my Tampa Bay area news elsewhere, on a more user friendly app.
This app is maddening
I have paid for not one, but two different accounts to attempt to read this news online. Neither works, it’s a ripoff. If I reset my password it will allow me to see one article before inviting me to SUBSCRIBE AGAIN! No way that’s happening. Every time I attempt this I think it will drive me a bit crazy, because that is the definition. The outcome is always the same. They may have a great newspaper, but the app is garbage. It doesn’t deserve the one star.
Random disconnects
This app cannot seem to hold my login for more than a few days. Then it looks like I’m still logged in - allows headline and summary scrolling - only to require typing in credentials again when I click on an article. Makes including this publication in the morning news scroll very frustrating.
Recent Update Broke App Unless You Want Notifications
I am now prompted to approve notifications and if I do not do so, it seems I cannot use the app. Why???
App
Worst app I ever saw. Today I’m locked on a notification screen can do anything to get out of it. So if I want to read todays news I can’t. Problem on iPad and iPhone. 6/8/2024
Notification Opt In
When I launched the app the Notification Opt In/out page popped up and will not let me off the page no matter how many times I click “Next”.
