Description

Tarjimly is an app that matches multi-lingual speakers with refugees, immigrants and aidworkers in need of translation or interpretation assistance. Multi-linguals can volunteer as a translator or interpreter for refugees and NGOs around the world, whilst refugees, immigrants and aid-workers can sign up in order to receive free assistance in the languages they need.
1 - Bilinguals sign up and get notified whenever a refugee needs a translator. If they're available, they'll click yes to the notification. Once connected in a live session they can exchange text messages, pictures, voice messages, and get on an internet phone call. High performing volunteers can receive a certificate or recommendation letter for their time spent volunteering on the app.
2 - Refugees and aid-workers sign up and request a translator based on their needs (like asylum interviews, emergency medicine, navigating a new country, or any humanitarian need). Tarjimly uses machine learning to connect them with the best available translator, within minutes. Once connected in a live session they can exchange text messages, pictures, voice messages, and get on an internet phone call.
Our mission is to eliminate language barriers, and ensure equity for all refugees and immigrants in accessing essential services.

I was unable to even sign up in the app. No matter what option I tried or how many times I tried it always can back with an error.

volunteer translators

Rasha María on

I don’t like how they treat volunteers with complete unclarity. They can keep confidentiality while preserving the translator’s right to see the hours log for the conversations they worked on. Also, the app for more than a week was showing a notice there will be a slow down in receiving translation requests due to a technical problem, YET there was no email or any communication to update translators.

App issues

Vcline68 on

United States

I continue to have issues with the app which redirects me to change my email, making me unable to use the app. I have re installed it several times and I continue having the same issue. I work with a Refugee Resettlement Program and this app is a great resource. If I was only able to have this issue fixed would be great!!!

Important for immigrants

cjhwomx on

Tarjimly is SO very important in our volunteer work with an immigrant family, who must feel like they have traveled to Mars! Communication with health care providers, apartment rentals, banking needs - all these things require Tarjimly. When the app has glitches, and doesn’t work, it’s terrible.

Great app but needs some work

Original 2/22/2022 Translators write and interpreters speak. This app pretty much calls everyone a translator and it’s a bit cringe considering the fact that this is supposed to be professional app. Update: Thank you for your reply. Thanks for the explanation. I just thought it was a bit off but understands now. That’s why I gave a 5 star rating regardless. Most people don’t even know the difference so it’s probably more user friendly for now 4/28/2022

Not working

Not sure if the app is not accepting new users but it says I have to verify my email but I don’t receive any emails to do so. I’ve contacted the support team - no response.

How irresponsible can you be?

Labeep on

United States

I am a professional interpreter . For starters, you do not even get the name right, translators write, interpreters speak. Second, you are asking for “bilinguals” Do you have any idea of the training that interpreters have? Do you know how difficult is to interpret ? Because you drive a car, you can fix it too??? Do you know how much damage a well meant and inexperienced bilingual can cause in a an asylum case? In the medical field have you heard about the 70 million dollar lawsuit for the word “intoxicado”? This application and this initiative are irresponsible, you are playing with people’s lives. And what certification are you offering, who is backing this certification ?
