Tempi measures you and your entire band’s tempo live, while you play, and lets you analyze the performance when you’re done. It's like a reverse metronome.
* Tempi listens while you (or your entire band) play.
* Tempi reports the BPM (beats per minute) of your performance in real time with remarkable accuracy.
* When you’re done, Tempi lets you analyze the recording so that problem areas can be pinpointed and improved.
* Use Tap for Tempo to quickly get a BPM reading at any time.
* Switch themes for easy nighttime use or just to suit your style.
* Recording sessions can be saved for later analysis.
* Export the audio recording of your performance to keep or share with others.
HOW TO USE
In a band setting, place the iPhone or iPad in a position where the entire band can see it so everyone will know when the band is speeding up or slowing down. When you’re done playing the song, press the stop button to analyze the performance. You can scroll through the entire song, isolate where the tempo sped up or slowed down, and play back the song to get an idea of what went wrong.
Tempi is great for individual practice too. Use it instead of a metronome while practicing to pinpoint problem areas in a piece of music that you’re learning. If you can play through an entire song with the tempo only changing by 1 or 2 BPMs, you’ve arrived :-)
Tempi works best when there’s a distinct “pulse” to the song, like a kick drum/snare or a repeating chord, and assumes the player is trying to play at a consistent tempo. With less structured music it still does quite well but may occasionally report incorrect tempos.
If your song is very fast or very slow, tap the button at the top right to toggle between 1/2x, 1x, and 2x tempos.

Tempi FAQ
Is Tempi free?
Tempi is not free (it costs 399.99), however it doesn't contain in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Tempi legit?
🤔 The Tempi app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
I test professional artists recordings to match their tempos. I can’t get Tempi to measure/work simultaneously with my player apps (Bandcamp, Amazing Slow Downer, Apple Music, Recorder) when both are on the same device. Either the player stops as soon as I touch “record” button on Tempi, or Tempi stops when I turn on the player app. This won’t work for me.
Very useful App
Very helpful for those of us who struggle to play in time. I think it would be even more helpful though if there was the ability to calculate the mean and standard deviation BPM over the course of the recording. This would help indicate over time, improvement in our ability to play in time.
Live tempo detection IF you record everything
Not a great tempometer.
If you want to record your performances you can receive a running live tempo read out. This could be cool for reviewing your performances.
But if you don’t want to commit memory resources and just want a live tempo reference…this is not the app for you.
Expensive too.
Amazing!
This little app does what my expensive audio and video editing software does not: It accurately detects beats per minute.
For a (non-musician) video editor who has struggled with timing clips to music for years, Tempi is a miracle. I’m now freed from the endless cycle of tapping out the beat, timing the clip, getting it wrong, tapping, re-timing the clip… Thank you!
Drummer gospel band
This app is amazing, get tons of compliments while using it in live situations!
Nice idea, but…
It doesn’t work. Placed phone right next to drum kit playing snare only and it wasn’t anywhere in the ballpark. Was playing 90 bpm and it registered as 118. Slowed playing down to 65 and it registered as 127. Sped up and it was up and down from 72 to 110.
Played a song from YouTube and it was all over the place on a simple steady beat.
Not sure if something changed recently or if it’s related to phone hardware or OS version. I’m on a 13 Pro using iOS 15.5. Plenty of good reviews on here so I’m just surprised it works so poorly.
Waste of $6 🙄
Great app! A coupla suggestions..
I am a pro drummer and have used this app in performance quite a bit. It is a great safety net and really helps to me to feel solid in a very natural way. My time feels much more consistent and confident after when I remove it from the equation as well! I have a few minor suggestions, but bravo on what has become one of my most efficient tools! I only have a couple minor suggestions.
I love that it records, but it would be great to have the option to not record. Recording drains the battery very quickly, thus making it unusable for longer recordings if you cannot plug in your device.
Also, it would be amazing to be able to minimize the app while being able to use another app simultaneously. ie. sheet music app, fourscore, etc.
I recommend it to my students and colleagues. People are always amazed and wonder why they have never heard of it! As is, it is still incredible and I will continue to utilize and recommend it to anyone that may benefit. Thank you for the wonderful tool!
fun, interesting
thanx
Only up to 240bpm
I wish there is a trial for this app. I just downloaded it to track my drumming, but it only detects beat rate up to 240, which makes it useless for me. I wish I could get a refund...
Worked Great
Only used this once so far, but plan to keep it as part of my gig setup. Today was an acoustic gig with me on cajon. Tempi did a great job of reading our live tempo. We tend to rush a bit we get louder so it was good to see that feedback so I could work on keeping the band on pace. Don’t try to over correct too quickly, that will just sound bad. Love the app. Sound quality wasn’t great but it was right by me and not my top need. Also would love to have access to the tempo chart you see live when save a song/performance.
