Description

Since 1963, The New York Review of Books has been the place where the world’s leading authors, scientists, educators, artists, and political leaders turn when they wish to engage in a spirited debate on literature, politics, art, and ideas with a small but influential audience that welcomes the challenge. Each issue addresses some of the most passionate political and cultural controversies of the day and reviews the most engrossing new books and the ideas that illuminate them.

The print edition of The New York Review of Books, included in the app, is published 20 times a year. The app also includes all of our online-only content. Articles can be bookmarked for later reading, and the app includes a link to browse our shop, The Reader’s Catalog.
Current print and online-only subscribers receive full access to the app through existing website login credentials (email and password). The app may also be purchased directly through the app store. Purchases made through the app store do not include access to The Review’s website and complete archive.

The New York Review of Books Reviews

Feels like being robbed...

Bart van Heerikhuizen on

Netherlands

Dear NYRoB, It appears to me that you stole all the issues that I bought this year. I have no subscription, no account and Imguess that is the reason why the issues that I bought and downloaded on my iPad between March and August 2019 are inaccessible since you updated your app, giving it a great make-over. Restore purchases does not work for me... You will probably say that I only bought access and that you can withdraw access, because I am not a regular subscriber, but just a passer-by, who happened to buy an issue every now and then. O.K. But still it feels like I have been robbed of some very interesting publications that I had not yet finished reading and that I paid for... in real Euro’s! Amsterdam, Bart van Heerikhuizen

Denk niet dat je hier de NYRB mee kunt lezen als je een digitaal abonnement hebt.

Wielewaal on

Netherlands

Simple but effective

FairFrank on

Netherlands

After installing the app and taking a premium subscription, it takes a couple of days before your account is activated. The service desk doesn't exist or is non responsive. Once activated, it is a basic 'download & read'. Simple but effective.

Nearly Useless for retrieving older articles

BDNelson73 on

United States

The search function is almost completely useless; you can enter the precise title of an older article and the search menu still won’t find it. Furthermore, subscriptions purchased through the app do not grant access to the website for some unknown reason. NYRB has some excellent articles, but this app is so bad and their policy decisions are so nonsensical that I will never support them again.

Great publication, unusable app

Mark Stoneman on

United States

It's almost as if the app developers do not read and still have perfect eyesight: (1) The font-size settings are unusable. (2) The PDFs are good, but the bookmark function doesn't work in them. I could still live with that if I could move the PDF to a better reader, but the files are locked inside the app. (3) The PDF tables of contents entries do not link to the pages on which the articles are, and I don't see a way to jump to a specific page number. (4) Who develops an app with a name that gets truncated on the screen? Do the deciders actually use the app?

Why no kindle?

The greatest.

No American publication covers as much ground, whether it’s current events, the arts , literature new and old.

NYR reader app is just okay

There are so many better ways to navigate a PDF document. Please update is app to modern technologies.

Best book reviews in the world.

Mshealy on

United States

Always thorough, always thoughtful, always the best. Learn about new books and old ones. The essays are always well written, and very much on point. A truly excellent literary publication.

Huge Improvement

DrTrotsky on

United States

The recent update is a big improvement over the old version. I’m actually using the app more than the website now. The only big issue is the limited font size selection. It’s either tiny or huge.
