The Ouroboros King Reviews
Mostly Good
Chess with rogue-like upgrades and “Really Bad Chess”-like board randomization is a great idea, and Ouroboros King delivers on the premise. The upgrades are simple and feel powerful, the interface is simple but good, later units go buck wild, which is fun. On the other hand - units and upgrades do not feel at all balanced, and restarting until you get favorable units and a favorable map can become tedious. Income is very limited and your units cap at 7, which is awkward. I’d love to see some balance improvements or expanded play options, but it’s still fun enough as-is for a few hours. I’m bad at chess but made it to “7.” I don’t know if I have it in me to grind it out past that.
UPDATE: After 6 months with no updates, it’s clear that issues will never be addressed.
Fun concept many bugs
What seems to be a great concept and a fun game is marred with bugs. Choosing game rules screen is arbitrary and doesn’t always appear. Sometimes when im trying to upgrade a unit, the menu just goes back to the map and cant upgrade a unit anymore.
Fun game
It’s really a fun game. Worth the money.
Cool game, needs improvements
Really fun idea and concept, but it has two major flaws. First, it can’t load without internet connection even though no components are online. Second, the enemy AI is not at all fine tuned for the new pieces, making victories trivial with pieces such as the assassin. If both of these were fixed, the full version would be worth it.
Confusing, frustrating, and not very fun for me
Nothing was explained when I started the game and at the end I just lost without even knowing why.
so annoying
i press on a piece and it makes a move with a completely different one
Why do I need to pay for the more pieces and the other 2 acts?!?
Overall,a great game, but why do I need to pay money for the other 2 acts and other pieces? I just wanna play the full game ;(
Good game some bugs
Great game with a lot of potential. A little on the pricey side at 7.99 for the full game. If this game keeps getting updated it’ll be great and worth that price tag. Some weird bugs such as if the AI has portal mages, they seem to be able to capture any piece they want without being adjacent to a piece. And some extra turn relics not working right.
Incredible game
I never write reviews, but after downloading this game and playing through the first act(very tempted to buy the other 2) I knew I had to. This game is really great if you love a good mental challenge/puzzle, it really is just Chess+. New pieces, new rules, new ways to play. If you like chess, you’ll love the sequel.
All of this isn’t even mentioning the effort that went into this game, each new piece is unique and fun to play with and upgrade too, plus the music is incredible too!! 10/10 game tbh
