The PocketLab

Published by: Myriad Sensors

Description

The PocketLab app brings together science curriculum, hands-on lessons, and data sensors for science learning. We built PocketLab for the curious explorers, educators, students, and makers to bring science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to life like never before.

PocketLab sensors connect with a single button to your iPhone or iPad and instantly stream measurement data that you can see and record. PocketLab sensors are designed for investigating physics, biology, chemistry, Earth science, environmental science, and engineering. Using the PocketLab app, you can easily analyze your data, create graphs, and integrate your data with other software. PocketLab has the same features as lab equipment that costs thousands of dollars but is low cost and intuitive to use.
NOTE: The PocketLab app is designed to pair with a PocketLab sensor. Order your sensor at thepocketlab.com.

Amazing Device But Flakey App

While the device, I have the PocketLab Air, is pricey as a long time science geek I love it. The app though, both the iPad and iPhone version, is very temperamental when downloading data. Hopefully the obvious UI and stability bugs will be fixed soon. I write iOS apps for a living and this app would never make it past even a lazy QA group.

I was one of the first purchasers of The Pocketlab and Clifton (founder) promised all kinds of beta features and future compatibility with Google Science Journal. That compatibility never came and I gave up using this product for the most part. Recently I pulled it out for a project, and found that the PocketLab team has completely changed their app and taken away almost all user functionality for taking measurements not related to their stupid curriculum. This device is nothing more than an accessory to their educational curriculum now and is no longer of any use to the non-educator. Myriad Sensors, Inc is a joke of a company.

User interface foibles

Some menus needlessly destroy other settings. Despite meter being much smaller than graph, each meter in a multiple-measurement project gets its own screen, so we can’t see both meters at the same time. Bluetooth selection menu is just a white screen with an orange triangle.
