This is a basic, no frills cycling class. There isn’t any fluff. If you’re looking for cheap frills and want to pay more $$ for pretty the same experience, in home cycling, get another app. My only complaint, the phone needs to be in “airplane mode” in order to play videos that you have downloaded (at least that how it is for my phone.)
Good- Hopeful of improvements
I really like the instructors. Very encouraging. The multi color level bar is very helpful.
Need to fix search, it just doesn’t work.
Need to be able to sort on my language and length at least. Need to see the classes I’ve taken.
Really want it to record my metrics, please.
Other Keiser apps shut off when in the background on my iPad and don’t record my metrics. Why have a separate app anyway?
Techno music is ok but other music choices would be better. How about coupling with my Pandora account and letting me set my music and the app set the beat.
Better stuff on YouTube
I don’t understand the point of the app. It doesn’t connect to the bike and the classes aren’t that good. There are better classes for free on YouTube
Boring.
Probably the least interesting ride I’ve ever had. The music is awful. The instructors are ok. It’s great that it’s specific to the Keiser M3 bike, but aside from that it’s not very motivating.
Could Be Great
I’ve been using the Ride by Keiser for about 3 - 4 months now. At first I wasn’t so sure about the app’s offerings, but now I enjoy not having to create my own rides and the cues and directions provided based on the Keiser bike mechanics.
Pros:
- workouts specific to Keiser bike resistance and cadence
- variety of instructors
- music usually matches workout for rhythm rides
- Hannah Lewin is one of the best instructors, providing motivation and great instruction. I can get a serious burn from her rides.
- shorter HIIT style workouts are available
Cons:
- visually boring
- lacks Keiser community connectivity
- music selection is boring. I almost end up forgetting music is playing.
- not all instructors provide clear instruction
- only 3 ride types
Suggestions to Keiser:
- opt for more engaging sensorial aspects (setting, camera angles, and music)
- allow for rider to turn off music and play their own music, but still here instructor directions
- create a community experience, so that riders can have the option to feel like they’re a part of something or be motivated by competition
Great app. Need to follow along with the M Series app on the FTP tab
Wonderful system for workouts. I like the bottom bar with the power zones and durations shown. Caters to all skill levels during the same ride because it relates to each riders specific FTP. Orange zone for me is going to be different than the orange zone for someone else, so the gears will be different, but the relative difficulty is the same. That’s why the instructors don’t call out specific gears only cadences. Pair this app with the regular M Series app so you can see which FTP color zone you are in while following along. This is crucial.
Chocolate teapot
I was really excited to find that Keiser finally released a ride app. They make great equipment, so I put a lot of trust in their brand. Unfortunately, their Ride App is about as unimpressive & useful as a chocolate teapot. I made it all of 5 minutes into my first ride before shutting off the app & switching back over to the Peloton app. The Keiser music selection was boring & there was no creativity with their camera work/angles. Aesthetics aside, the big thing I was looking for in the Keiser app over using the Peloton app or another 3rd party app was having a class taught in synch with the Keiser's resistance & cadence levers. So, I was super disappointed when the instructor only referenced cadence, not once mentioning the resistance setting. Advice for Keiser: focus on what you do well & continue to make great equipment, leave the app development & production to others.
Best app to use with a Keiser m3i
I have been trying out different workout apps with my Keiser and found that I enjoy this app the most. Mapping the workout effort to power zone is the best way to have a great workout for different fitness levels. You just need to make sure you update your functional threshold power test every so often.
The improvement I’d like to see is more workouts posted and more diversity of instructors.
