Description

Unique in its international coverage of religion, current affairs, politics, social issues and the arts, The Tablet is a weekly Catholic journal which has been reporting on events of significance for over 170 years.
Every week The Tablet provides in-depth and balanced coverage on a wide range of subjects and its contribution to topical issues is strengthened by its contributors: each issue contains the work of writers drawn from all over the world, whose names are familiar in their particular field of experience.
The Church in the World section reports on events within the Church internationally, covering Europe, Rome, Asia, the Pacific, Africa and the Americas. The Home News section reports on news within UK churches, both Catholic and other Christian. In addition the latest church documents are analysed and discussed
The Notebook section gives a light-hearted round-up of recent events, often with a humorous tone and the Letters section offers lively and intelligent debate from readers worldwide.
No mention of The Tablet would be complete without reference to the widely respected Books section. Its detailed reviews are comprehensive, across a wide variety of subjects from philosophy to film appreciation and Christian apologetics to crime fiction. And the Arts section includes reviews of galleries and exhibitions, theatre, cinema, television, radio, music and opera.
The iPad/iPhone edition brings you selected pages from the latest issue as soon as it is published. You can subscribe within the application for full access, which brings you every page of the issue and a searchable archive back to 26 November 2011. Issues are not sold individually - for the duration of your subscription you have access to every issue in this archive.
During your subscription you can sync back issues to your device. These will remain in place if your subscription expires, unless your device removes them (for example when running low on disk space). Re-downloading issues requires a current subscription.
• Swipe or tap the page edges to flip to next/previous page.
• Use the animated thumbnail view to flick through the pages.
• Pinch or double-tap pages to zoom.
• Switch between single or double-page view.
• Search the current issue or the archive.
• Tap any page links to web sites, email addresses, phone numbers or maps.
• Tap contents-page links to jump to a particular article.
• Sync back issues to your device for offline reading (requires wi-fi).

The Tablet Reviews

Frustrated

I subscribe to a paper copy, and also an online one. I can download the magazine on the website, but NOT on the app. I am not impressed!

An ideal guide to religious and civic behaviour.

I enjoy the honesty. I find it a bit difficult at the moment to switch between articles. An absolute necessity for busy people who find the paper edition difficult to spare time to read. A thoughtful background to current problems of the Church such as celibacy! Personally in the coming years just as suitable men must be found for the priesthood as cardinals and elected Pope . Consequently suitable female priests, married - clergy such as the Anglican Church both men and women -who like all leaders will sometimes fail to live up to the demands of leadership and would be free to resign to take a parallel life as a lay person without recrimination. Serious failure needs the attention of civil society as well as the church itself! It might require punishment as an example to others acting on abusive feelings to young and old to reign in such temptations fulfilling Christ' s injunction to realise the extreme moral sinfulness of not displaying the utmost respect for others especially the young not yet formed Christians in the steps of the apostles especially Peter who bravely confessed his errors and expressed his love for Christ and the assembly of His Sexuality should develop as a gift -morally the individual's responsibility understanding Christ's own divine guidance rather than the interpretation put on sinfulness by others!

Superb magazine!!!

Really worth the money. Full of interesting articles about the church and society around the world. Plus, you can sync loads of back issues and keep them even if your subscription runs out. Up-to-date topics and out every week. Simply Brilliant!!!

Brilliant app., but impossible to unsubscribe during period of live subscription. You have a narrow window of escape, prior to auto renewal. Don't get drawn in.

Great to see The Tablet App

Finally, the Tablet has come into the digital age! Pages not formatted for iPhone though - Difficult to read. Update - Having read my first edition on my iPhone I'm happy to report the formatting isn't as much of a problem as I thought it would be.
