The Times of London for iPad Reviews

Still horrendous

Zebdi2 on

Why, oh why did you have do mess around with a perfectly good app? Months on, the new one is still lousy with just too many problems. The experience is still horribly frustrating. I am often tempted to terminate my subscription and start another one with another paper solely because of the app. Please fix that horrendous app asap.

Excellent app

This specific version of the app is perfect for news reading on the iPad. Bravo The Times, now please leave the app alone. :-)

Can you rate something less than 1 star? This is below zero

September 2023 - Oh, my, they really screwed up something that was working fairly dependably. The recent update is slow to load, sometimes doesn’t load the current edition, is quirky to navigate and, basically, screws up something that didn’t need changing. The Times doesn’t have a good track record of updates. Really unhappy!!! The new app is crap! Now on my third day of attempting to use this. When it works, it is very slow. More often than not it crashes, over and over and over. What used to be a pleasure is now a huge chore. I want my Times back! The new app takes forever to load, crash frequently (every few pages), requires 5, 10, 15 or more attempts to reload when it does crash, freezes, is difficult to move from page to page ( you try to flick to the next page and either nothing happens or it page gets stuck half way), and many more problems. I hate that you have to go to Contents to get to the next section (e.g. - to get to Scotland from News) rather than just paging to the next section at the end of the previous one. In the Scotland section today the was no Contents or Editions tab so now I'm stuck in that section and can't seem to get anywhere else. I hate having to separately download "special" sections like Magazine or Times2. After being a subscriber almost from the beginning of the iPad edition, this is the first time that I really can't use my subscription because the current version is so bad. Also, nothing I wanted was added and all the new "features" are either worse than the previous alternative or are unnecessary or unhelpful. You've really screwed this one up!!! Update from 28 Feb - today's tally - 10+ crashes and 4 re-installs and I haven't gone beyond the News section. Crashes occur most often on the "In Pictures" page, which I love but can't view anymore as well as on ad pages. Also had a failure to load today, not uncommon. This app is just junk. Post like articles together please

Update: Improved app, but please post all the same sports together. Right now you have to scan through the entire sports section to read all the (say) rugby articles. Very inefficient and frustrating. Nice way to read the times. However, the app and especially its interaction with the online version is very buggy. I experience numerous issues saving articles and fetching online links from within the app. Also, deleting saved articles often takes multiple attempts.

Please leave well alone.

The makers have supposedly made changes after extensive research, although it looks suspiciously like the ‘Live’ version. The sport section used to be sub-categorised so that you could select e.g., Football or Tennis and read each of those articles back to back. Now you need to scroll through as the order may be football, rugby back to football, then F1, then back to football etc. The crossword now has an annoying timer which though can be turned off has to be done everyday. If like me you like to start and then return later to the crossword later in the day, hard luck as now your previous answers aren’t held but disappear. I appreciate real first world problems but frustrating all the same.

Complete failure

Latest update is an utter fiasco….a current Apple subscription cannot be accessed and all prior editions and saved articles are lost. News Corp./The Times should be ashamed of this app. Stay away until fixed!!!!

Can’t get app to work as intended

RFK1951 on

I trying to load this app on an iPad gen 9. The app downloads and then I login. The app then downloads a few past weeks editions, it then asks if I want to upgrade my subscription or go back to the homepage. I select go back and the homepage now shows “checking for current edition “… at this point it just hangs. I’ve deleted and reloaded the app multiple times with no luck, just hangs at the same point. Help!

App won’t let new subscriber in

Just paid for a subscription, downloaded the app, logged in. It started downloading 30 days of editions, but then tells me, my subscription doesn’t entitle me to access anything, takes me back to the recent edition, which is blank. Time to get a refund I guess.

Excellent, but just a bit pricey for foreign subscribers.

JTHZA on

A fantastic app, but as a foreigner, and not something I look at everyday, the subscription is a bit pricey. I’m currently on a special deal, but not sure I’ll renew if the subs got back to what they were.

Best news app by miles

I have been using this app since two years. Best service ever. Only if they could add the support for the magic keyboard. Submitted on May 2021.
