HENRY SHUKMAN teaches mindfulness and awakening practices to a wide range of students from all traditions and walks of life. Henry is an authorized Zen Master in the Sanbo Zen lineage, and is the Spiritual Director of Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His struggles and traumatic experiences as a youth, combined with a spontaneous awakening experience at 19, paved the way for Henry to develop a well-rounded approach to meditation.

All grounded in modern mindfulness and ancient Zen wisdom.

I never thought I’d rate another meditation app 5 stars

But here we are: Henry Shukman, thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating this app. It is a blessing and a gift for so many of us. I have been slacking on my meditation practice but no more, not with The Way on my homescreen. Just a few sessions in, and I’m already noticing increased tranquility and greater mindfulness of my actions. Grateful.

The Way is a truly wonderful journey thus far. I have been meditating for years now using a variety of apps, but the instruction here is giving me a much better foundation of knowledge and practice. I highly, highly recommend this app to anyone wanting to go deeper with their meditation practice. Having a consistent and highly knowledgeable teacher has been transformative and the path is incredibly well laid out (and thought out).

I’ve been meditating on and off for years now, with the last 3 consisting of an unbroken daily practice. During my history I’ve tried numerous meditation apps. None of them compare to The Way. It’s offered me a better foundation than any of the others I’ve tried, and Henry’s directions have been the easiest to digest. I would say that this might be a bit more daunting for absolutely new meditators compared to other apps, however for the more “intermediate” folks, The Way is perfect. The path to awakening has never felt so clear.

I love the simplicity of the approach and Henry’s calm demeanor is so helpful during sits - helps the self-critical voice that has often popped up with other meditation approaches. This path has become central to my day and general state of mind.

The simplicity and progression of these meditations has me looking forward to sitting when I wake in the morning. The app offers a 10 or 20 minute sit option. I find I have been able to be more consistent sitting 20 minutes most mornings … and choosing 10 minutes makes it hard to resist if I am feeling pressed for time. If you want more … you can stay sitting in the arising stillness. I am more likely to stay on the path with Henry’s gentle encouragement daily. With gratitude!

Simple, Deep Guide to Meditation and Life

I have been practicing for a couple years via Waking Up, where I found Henry Shukman’s meditations. I’ve found his guidance is very powerful and precise, inviting us to be with all of our experience, emphasizing compassion and acceptance of what arises, as well as recognition of the more ultimate selfless nature of awareness. While I think Waking Up is an incredible resource, The Way really has simplified some of the confusion that has come with navigating an array of similar yet different approaches and lexicons. There are so many beautiful teachings out there, but I think I’ve found a few that I want to focus on exploring. I’m using The Way for my meditation sessions—with some daily meditations from Sam on Waking Up—and listening to Joseph Goldstein’s amazing Dharma talks on Waking Up. I’m also reading Joseph Goldstein’s Mindfulness. Selfishly I do have a suggestion 🤪. At the moment we can do 10 or 20 minute meditations. I would like the option to customize the meditation length further. Preferably by adding mostly silence to the end, with the ending guidance (“move fingers, open your eyes…”) still coming at the end of the chosen duration. Thank you so very much to the Shukmans for creating this. ~Kyle

I am so grateful for this app. Even as a seasoned meditator, I was drawn to The Way right away, and I have not been disappointed.
