Generate pure sine wave tones at frequencies from 20hz to 22,000hz. Tone generation is useful in tuning instruments, hearing tests, science experiments, and testing audio equipment.
Tone Generator has many uses:
- Hearing Test: What is the lowest/highest frequency you can hear in each ear?
- Tuning Instruments: Does your top guitar string match Low E at 440 Hz?
- Science Experiments: What is the resonant frequency of your wine glass?
- Audio System Test: What frequencies does your subwoofer support?
Directions:
Adjust audio frequency by dragging the slider or tapping the plus/minus buttons. Adjust device volume using the on-screen volume slider. You can also specify to play audio to any AirPlay supported device. Toggle audio playback using the Play/Pause button.

Tone Generator FAQ
Is Tone Generator free?
Yes, Tone Generator is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Tone Generator legit?
🤔 The Tone Generator app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
A good improvement would be:
- For left and right separate tone generation and volume.
- Possibility to generate many tone frequencies at the same time (with optional for each tone left right separate or coupled/ in sync).
- creating presets of each tone pallet.
Please respond to this feedback.
Unable to fine tune a frequency
The slider is too small to increment the frequency in steps of 100hz and the + sign only allows for single Hz steps, which takes forever.
Leren
Door deze app het ik voor de geluidsgolven een 10!!! Ik ben er SUPER blij mee
Bass test
This is a good bass test this id good👍🏻
Good enough
The app is quite simple to use because it doesn’t have many features. You just have a volume control and a frequency control which is just all you need and expect from something like this.
Does not work in the background...
The app is great and easy to use. However the app needs to be in the foreground for it to generate sounds. So you cannot start the sound and then (for example) switch to a reading app to do some relaxed reading...
Needs precision tuning
This would be so much improved by a more sensitive slider or ability to type in a frequency. Too sloppy to give the precision required to cancel noise from tinnitus.
Versatile
As a musician and voice actor who records in a home studio, I have found this app invaluable for ear training and help with troubleshooting. Especially, when you’re learning how to mix, if you have a troublesome frequency that you have difficulty finding. I’ve used this app to replicate the tone by ear then I use the data from this app to find that frequency on the EQ and adjust it. Unless your a seasoned pro with golden ears, this app will save you time and headaches. It’s also useful for testing audio gear and microphones. On occasion, I’ve also used it to make my dog stop barking. LOL! The dogs hate it around 2.5kHz. If this app was lost or stolen, I’d get it again immediately. LOL!
Dead on arrival.
No tone coming out of this app.
Not bad
Would be cool if it had variable load inputs not just a constant but otherwise does the job like a boss
