ToneStack PRO Guitar Amps & FX Reviews

Purchased for Loopy Pro

I purchased this to use in Loopy Pro, so far I like it.

Vintage amp bliss

For me, this app nails several vintage amp sounds; particularly Supro, Fender and Vox. There are excellent stomp box effects, although the reverbs aren’t quite as satisfying. The UI is generally user friendly, although a few effects aren’t quite as intuitive to operate. Not sure this is the best app choice for hi gain, although you can still get some decent tones. I’ve tried other apps with rigs, IRs, tone captures and profiles, but I play ToneStack more than the others.

No momentary button support??

aversa on

United States

Every other app that uses midi control lets you latch pedals with momentary buttons. Except these expensive guitar effects apps. It would be really great to trigger and latch effects using momentary and soft touch foot switches… Rather than having to load 5 instances in a program to get it to do what ToneStack should already do in one instance.

This app is great on its own

No sync, This app will not work in Logic Pro on IPad making it useless for my workflow? I really hope this gets addressed. I will go to 5 stars if fixed!

Skip this app if you need your delay to be in time!

I’m rating 1 star because this app is effectively useless to me after discovering such a stupid not working feature. When you use this app within another app (as an audio unit) they remove the tempo syncing options from the ui. The app is supposed to sync to the tempo of the app it’s being used within. THIS DOESN’T WORK! So no app sync within garage band, cubase 3, aum or any other audio app. I wanted to use this in aum with another app “autopad” which would let me have a click and pad going with my electric sounds. This is rendered impossible. Such a bummer because the sounds this app can create are phenomenal. If it did everything it claimed to be able to do then I would be super happy with it. I would be fairly close to being able to replace my heavy and expensive pedalboard with an ipad. But a very important feature is broken. This app appears to have been abandoned as posts about this very topic on their online forum have not been responded to for about a year. Devs: if you fix this I will change this review to 5 stars. While your in there can you provide the option to still have midi tap temp available while functioning as an audio unit?

Needs improvement

TruthInAction on

Generally good app but my main issue is with the ABY pedal. The three stomp pedals share the same single midi trigger instead of being split between 3 triggers. I’m not sure if Yonac expects the one trigger to cycle between the 3 states or what. In practice, I could only get it to cycle between A and B and couldn’t engage the Y. Regardless, cycling isn’t a good way of handling this because sometimes I want to click directly to the state I want to be in and not have to cycle through two states to get there (even if it worked properly). This doesn’t seem like a Pro level design.

Sounds great!

After purchasing every guitar sim app out there, I have to say that this is the very best sounding, and by far the best value. At this time there is NOTHING that comes close to this app, skip the others and get this one! Dev team: There is two things that would make this app absolutely perfect…. 1. An IR loader for the cab section 2. A special effect that would allow you to load in an auv3 plugin loader for the sound chain… Those two things would make this app a GAME CHANGER! It would be nice if… 1. When loading up an amp head it would also load up it’s matching cab. 2. Quick Midi assign instead of diving into the menu to activate 3. There were a list of what the amps and effects were modeled after. Marketing: I think you guys are leaving money on the table… Advertise the heck out of this app, it’s way too underplayed, give it to some high end guitar/bass players, get people excited about this via youtube, magazines.. whatever you can do, I hate that there are not many creating videos like the competition.

update??

Sicochoco on

United States

Come on guys, an update please, as an auv3 it dows not recieve MIDI from sources in AUM, nor from virtuall inputs, so it cannot recieve clock information, so any time based fx like delay and so can’t be synchronized to tempo, ableton link would be nice or something, no updates since it came out is no good, love your apps but no one takes care of them after they come out, it is a shame

Frequent crashes,

ambrosiajam on

United States

I have several complaints about this app. 1. This app crashes frequently when I’m using it in AUM, which is obviously a big problem that renders this app completely worthless to me for its purpose. No other guitar amp sims experience this issue. (2017 iPad Pro) 2. The app cannot be loaded into an audio/midi source slot in AUM. What?! Why not?! My audio interface isn’t detected as a mic, but just ‘usb out’, however that was never an issue with tonestack 3! In fact, the workaround to fix this was: load tonestack 3, turn off all effects/amp sims, then load tonestack pro as an effect for tonestack 3. What a waste of time and resources. This convoluted process can only be described as the modern day equivalent of blowing into a Nintendo cartridge. 3. Speaking of tonestack 3, that brings me to my last and most annoying complaint (only most annoying because I’m sure you can fix the other issues with an update I guess, even tho a broken app is unacceptable) All the effects are the same and I have to buy them again?! I already paid for the ‘motherload’ in-app purchase for every single effect in ts3. Now, in order to use auv3 features, I need to unload my wallet for everything again? I would have paid for an upgrade to tonestack 3 to add auv3 features. But not $70. Other developers have figured out bundle options for app upgrades when they announce new “upgraded versions” of the same thing. I also don’t have time to ‘watch for sale prices’ on the App Store so please save me that discourse about the ‘introductory pricing’. As someone who already had spent money on these effects already and has used them loyally for years, I was hoping for better than a broken app with an enormous price of (re)admission. Sorry for the bad review. Please fix.
