SmartSearch Trains of South Africa is a sophisticated tool for smart phones and tablets to identify and learn about the trains and motive power of South Africa. You can choose your location to find trains that could be found near you and a powerful search function will allow you to filter by status, operator, manufacturer, wheel arrangement and much more.
The app is free to download but offers an in-app purchase to make all the trains and functionality available. The evaluation version only contains 65 of the 327 trains, has some search limitations and does not allow for sightings to be added..

Intelligent Search Functionality:
The intelligent Search process is driven by a highly complex, matrix of data. You can filter by status, operator, manufacturer, wheel arrangement and much more.
Location Based filtering:
Searches can be significantly refined, by using the Location function to reduce the list of trains, preserved or running, near the location.
My Trains:
This allows the recording of individual, personal train sightings. You can add photo, notes and a location where you spotted the train.
Help:
InfoHotSpots are the educational go-to Help destinations, throughout the app, which provide the links between the data required for the Search categories and the User’s understanding.
Settings:
This section allow the user to choose between Official, English and Afrikaans as Primary and Secondary languages of names for the trains, as well as determining the method of grouping in the train list.
