So I would have to say that this would be a great app except it requires you to pay for it with an sub.
I've tried a few different home inventory apps, and Under My Roof is by far the best. It's easy to use, easy to customize, has a clean & simple interface. I got into it when I realized I needed to inventory my belongings for insurance -- I wanted a good and reasonably complete list of what I owned, so I could determine replacement value and make sure I had enough insurance coverage. Though I live rather simply and frugally, by myself in a small apartment, I soon learned I was underinsured. This app lets me list what I own, as well as upload photos, receipts, and user manuals, which sets me up pretty nicely should I ever need to make a claim due to loss. I especially live that I can set items up to hold other items, like my china cabinet and my storage totes. They each get values, photos, and receipts, and then I can catalog all the other items they hold. The only thing missing for my use is expiration dates. Along with the usual furniture, clothing, electronics, etc, I'd love to be able to catalog and track consumables -- like the large stash of batteries that have gotten me through some extended bad weather/no power events. While I can add a field for expiration dates, there's no way to easily view expiring items, so I'm having to use a not-nearly-as-good pantry tracking app for those things.
This app is truly fantastic for me. I do pay the subscription as well. It’s worth it. These app developers are constantly improving the app as well; that means a lot. Quickly syncs changes between iPhone and Mac too. Love having my inventory & model numbers etc “at the ready.” Reporting features are great. Ability to add custom fields is AWESOME. Best inventory app out there. Been using it for 3-4 years.
I own short term and long term rentals and use this app daily to keep track of everything under each roof!
It used to be really good and easy to use. Now, it’s complicated, crashes and doesn’t work. I did the upgrade and followed the instructions to migrate my old data, and the new version cannot read the info. I’ve tried to add in new data and it refuses to load a photo from my phone or desktop. I selected one photo of my car and it uploaded 20 photos of flowers!!!!!! I tried again and it uploaded 81 misc. photos!!!! I unsubscribed and the app still says I’ve subscribed. BEWARE!!!!! both the iPhone and desktop versions are a mess now. Update 10/27/23 I was finally able to import some files from the backup folder on my computer, though 2/3 of the data is missing. The multiple photo uploads occurred using the iPhone version of Under My Roof, but I still have the Remote Entry app on my phone and it added just the 2 photos of my car I selected. This would still be my preferred app for inventory, there are so many changes, it will take some time to learn the new features.
I deleted it within about two minutes of downloading it. Had I known it was a subscription service, I wouldn’t have downloaded it in the first place.
I looked around for a long time for a new inventory app once I moved to the Apple System with a Mac, iPhone and an iPad Pro. This is by far the best I have found. And the upgrades are fantastic. I can be working on my Mac, entering a new item, and I can take a photo of the item with my iPhone and within seconds, the photo is on my Mac. With inprovments like that, I don't mind the small annual fee to keep it updated. Keep up the great work.
I was hoping it would be free or at least be able to pay one time and be done with it. But no. If you want more than 10 items in your inventory you have to pay monthly or yearly.
Under My Roof is a real must for everyone who values the many things that they have in their homes. This is the best home inventory that is available to the public. We never know when we are robbed or hit by a tornado, fire, hurricane or other natural disaster. In that event all one would have to do is simply hand your insurance agent a thumb drive that has everything on it. You cannot remember all that you have and the cost for this valuable service is well worth the modest price!
