Cured my gambling addiction

Dexrexx on

Gambling had been my escape for years, a whirlwind of flashing lights, spinning wheels, and the thrill of the unknown. It was a rush, sure, but it was also a trap, one that had dug its claws deep into my life. I was sinking, drowning in debts and broken promises. Each “one last time” became the next, and the cycle seemed unbreakable—until I stumbled upon an iOS app called “Unzip.” Now, “Unzip” wasn’t some miracle cure advertised as the end of all addictions. It was a simple app designed to do one thing: unzip compressed files, especially those tricky ones like .rar and .7z. But what it did for me went far beyond its intended purpose. It all started with a project at work. I needed to extract a massive archive of .rar files for a client presentation. My usual tools were out of commission, and I was desperate to find a solution. So, I hit the App Store and found “Unzip.” It had stellar reviews and promised to handle .rar and .7z files like a champ. It seemed like a godsend, and I downloaded it without a second thought. When I opened “Unzip,” I expected the typical interface—a file browser, maybe some settings, the usual. But what I found was different. The app’s design was sleek, intuitive, and almost calming. It wasn’t just a tool; it was an experience. As I navigated through my files, selecting the ones I needed to extract, I felt something shift in me. It was subtle at first, a slight detachment from the chaos that usually filled my mind. But it was there. The more I used the app, the more I noticed it. “Unzip” had this strange way of organizing not just my files, but my thoughts too. As I unraveled compressed archives, I started to unravel the tangled mess that was my mind. Each file that I unzipped felt like a weight lifting off my shoulders, a small victory in the battle against the chaos that had taken over my life. Over time, I found myself turning to “Unzip” more often, not just for work, but as a kind of ritual. When the urge to gamble struck, I would reach for my phone, open “Unzip,” and start extracting files. The app became a form of meditation, a way to center myself and focus on something productive instead of destructive. And then, something incredible happened. As I continued to use “Unzip,” I began to see patterns in my behavior, connections I hadn’t noticed before. The app’s ability to organize and simplify files made me realize that I could do the same with my life. I started to break down my problems, one by one, like the files in

Unironically the best file app on iOS.

I’ve had Unzip for the longest of time now (pretty sure 2019 is when I first got it?) and I used to use it for just opening .zip files - which it does great by the way - but I eventually realised how much better it is for sending files from a computer when connected via USB to charging port. You can just seemlessly dump files into it and it’ll appear as it is in the files app without hassle, the app is free to use with a few mini banner ads but they don’t even obscure or distract from the app. Even if I got this app in high school to download games into my phone, I still regularly use it in University when dealing with file transfers just from how reliably “reliable” the app is. Good app, honestly my number 1 in file management apps.

Scam ads and hardly works.

Failed to unzip most of my folders, chock-full of intrusive ads and to top it off even ads that actively scam the user.
