Description

US GEOLOGY is one of the twelve chapters of The National Atlas of the United States® which was coordinated and lead by USGS, this is the effort of more than 20 Federal agencies. The other layers are, Agriculture, Biology, Boundaries, Climate, Environment, Government, History, Map Reference, People, Transportation and Water. Geobyte is planning to produce these Chapters in future.
In this volume we have incorporated 46 layers of vector information available at The National Atlas of the United States® Website. These include Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Geologic Map, Mineral Operation, Magnetic Field, Waterways, County Boundaries and many more.
Detailed Geologic Maps (scale of 1:500,000 or larger) and Faults, from Open-File Reports of USGS of 48 States are also included.
The Legend or Key for each layer has been designed in the way that one can select all or select specific units from the legend and generate the map of particular interest. For example you can generate map with only Cretaceous Sedimentary rocks and only earthquakes of certain magnitude.
The units on the map can be identified by long tap on the map.
With the GPS capability of the system the location on the ground is known and you can add, edit and save notes on the map.The distance between two points and the area of polygon can also be calculated.
All the layers can be displayed in both Mercator and Lambert Equal-Area Projections.
There is no need to have access to WIFI, 3G or 4G Data Network to use this app. All the data are saved in your device.

USAtlas Geology Reviews

Not great

door144 on

United States

Zoom only zooms to the center of the USA. The geologic units just show ages and you cannot press them for more info. Save the cash.

Awful

se7rover on

United States

Dont get this. Seriously. Im insane about geologic maps. Im insane with hunting rocks. This is useless. The information is there but the amount of frustration and time it takes to access pertinent data makes this not a viable tool in any way. Paper maps. Technology is crap.

Don’t waste your money!

caw901 on

United States

This is terrible. No auto location. No usable zoom.

Ripoff - DO NOT BUY

KoowanPStark on

United States

Completely useless. It’s painfully slow and the map scale is so large you might as well just download a JPEG of the geologic map of the US which would cost you nothing. Unbelievably overpriced for such a useless app. DO NOT BUY

Poor Zoom and Layer Information

Geoguy59 on

United States

Very difficult to zoom in on an area, app pans away from centered area. Layers do not provide information when selected in map view. Do not recommend.

Waste of money for serious user

Geologist20000 on

United States

Zooming in changes the centerpoint. This makes the application unusable because a small zoom scale requires hundreds of swipes to return to the area of interest. Waste of money for a serious user. Avoid at any price until issue is fixed.

Unworkable unusable

Stretchedpebble on

The positive reviews must be from relatives and friends. This is a complete waste without reworking the zoom capabilities. This is a terrible app. I wasted $5. Very generalized geologic map is essentially useless. If you load a more detailed state geologic map, there is no way to zoom in enough to see any detail. Zooming in shifts area of interest off of the screen! This is amateurish work. There is no way to center on the gps location! Really! I've never seen a gps capable app without this simple feature. What is worse is the fact that it is literally impossible to zoom into a specific location. So, you can see where you are in the northeast US, but can never get to a particular state. This is the worst iPad navigation I've seen. Do not waste your money or time on this app.

Don't waste your time it is a very frustrating app

Fowl Hunting on

United States

Terrible app unless you want to know what's going on on the other side the country because when you turn on location services it takes you 10 minutes locate the map in the center of the screen so you can see it And don't try to turn on later are you going to start all over

Unusable on older devices

HrAlb on

United States

Zooming moves the centerpoint, usually shifting the area of interest right off the screen. Dragging to get back to the area of interest requires experience and talent - my current theory is that a long touch, followed by a slow drag, keeping the touch until the map shows up, may help. On an iPhone 4s, that's pretty much the end of the story. On an iPad mini 2, zooming and dragging are workable, but not great. Makes me wonder if the app is redrawing the entire world-space, instead of just the view-window. Vector maps can perform better than typical raster-tile maps, so being vector is no excuse. Nor would that explain the awful UI, nor the non-sticky settings. The only explanations I can think of are inexperienced programmers and no respect for users. Needed fixes - - Zoom centered on screen or between pinch touchpoints - Turning on location services should provide an option to center map at location (duh!) - Sticky settings So it looks like until the developers get their act together, I can't use this on the 64gb 4s I intended, but only on a 16gb device that doesn't really have room for it. Sigh.

Great idea; bad app!

Kefalafel on

United States

This could have been a great resource, but poorly designed navigation makes it unusable. The user can't zoom to a particular location, because the map doesn't maintain center.
