When paired with a compatible Garmin Varia device¹, the Varia app has the tools you need to ride with confidence. Using the Varia app, you can:

• Be alerted right on your phone when approaching vehicles are within 140 meters behind your bicycle.
• View color-coded alerts based on surrounding traffic: Green means you’re all clear, yellow means a vehicle is approaching, and red means a vehicle is coming at you quickly and you should take caution.
• Receive tone and vibration alerts for approaching vehicles even when you’re not looking at your phone.

With a compatible Garmin Varia Rearview Radar Camera, you can:

• Set the camera in the best position for capturing videos and photos.
• Record videos or take photos while riding with a simple button press on your phone.
• Automatically record videos of incidents and save the video footage with the Incident Recording feature.

By adding the Varia eRTL615 Rearview Radar Tail Light, you can:
• Configure and edit light mode configurations for your tail light.

Easy to Use
Pairing your Garmin Varia device with the app is quick and easy. Once you set it up, the Varia app will automatically recognize your device.

Even if you already have a Varia device paired with a compatible Garmin device or head unit, the Varia app provides additional awareness and peace of mind while riding.

BASIC

Really doesn’t do much, nobody is using this app whilst riding. Buggy and useless

No gallery access

Whilst I can view live feed access to the gallery via Varia private wifi simply does not work on the latest version of the app. It used to but so slowly it was unusable Garmin this app as you already know is not fit for purpose!

Needs more work

Got it to connect to my RCT715, eventually Light / radar is great, works very well with Edge 1030 head unit. Camera functionality is poor, at best: 1) the recordings are in 30 second chinks whatever setting I choose in the app (5 minutes is my selection) 2) 100’s of segments via the app is then tedious - they mostly sync quickly to the phone but not always. As an idea Garmin, why not add an auto-play (inc scroll) feature to the app as an option, so you can play the videos as if they were one continuous segment and the app simply tells you which segment you are in once you find what you want 3) Especially when the navigation buttons are inverted and pressing the right (forwards) button takes you to the previous segment - pretty basic stuff Garmin… A companion front camera would be great

Awesome companion

This device is one of the best ride companions you can buy. Works well in a group, but comes into its own when you are on solo rides. Picks up approaching vehicles way in advance of you hearing or sensing them and alerts you to their proximity to you. It's well worth it just for that, but I can't help thinking the same as some others here, it could be even better with the addition of some basic info. AVG speed, Direction, Mileage. For me the addition of these metrics would take this app to another level. I'd go 4.5 stars as it's so good, but a little room for future improvements.....🤞🏻

Excellent radar

Works great. Please next include a camera rear view mode on your next model which can be viewed on your phone with AI boxes around vehicles with red the fastest approaching to help in deciding relevant action.

Totally Useless

Appealing app from Garmin. Pretty much impossible to view or retrieve footage. Slow and laggy.

Underwhelming and useless

Super basic with zero additional functionality. Why can’t you turn the unit off/on and change/create lighting modes? Essentially useless other than to retrieve footage, and even then it’s a terrible experience.

Waste of Time

The App is quite a pointless unless you want to ruin your phone screen, thought it control the settings so I could check the battery level but no it doesn’t. If you have a Bike computer use that instead. Garmin should remove this App it must be there worst ever software ever.

Excessive IPhone battery drain.

I often find that the app uses up to 60% of my iPhone 8 battery during a 4 hour ride. Sometimes it will only use 2% - all in very light traffic country roads.

Varia

This is a brilliant piece of kit warning you of aproaching cars up to 6 vehicles I use mine with my garmin edge plus but link it to my Apple phone as well, as the warning chime and all clear chime is much louder than the garmin which cannot be heard with the wind against you
