Great wallpapers and daily updates.
I used to love looking through all of the amazing packs and wallpapers Vellum had. I frequently change my wallpaper out for a fresh look. However, it seems that lately they’re uploading less and less packs, and their newest spring pack features what is clearly AI-generated photos. Incredibly lazy and sad to see such a unique app that celebrated artists and photography steep to such lows as including ai in their selection.
I usually don’t write reviews because a lot of apps on iPhone are like a, poisoned chalice, to say the least. They’re decent but not great. So I refrain from reviewing them. But this app here…… this is a wallpaper app that gave “me” everything I was looking for in an app like such. It has minimal ads, yet gives me the perfect amount of downloads before one ad plays. The download factor, the speed is incredibly fast. It is simple and easy. The design factor is clean. No messy ads covering the screen or the download button. It doesn’t have faux buttons or random placements for a wallpaper section. It’s neatly put into squared away sections that are nicely placed one on top of the other. The description factor. It’s nicely worded and feels luxurious and high end. It ties in nicely with the feel and pretentiousness of the iPhone 15. I have the iPhone 15 and somehow it still makes me feel as if I own a pro or pro max simply because of the words used to describe each category. The category factor. There’s an exceptional amount of categories, I sometimes think there’s too many from artist around the globe. So many in fact that I still haven’t reached the bottom of the app. I’m maybe half way I believe. But even with that many to choose from, you’d think they’d either get repetitive or stagnant even, but NOPE, they differentiate incredibly and each one is unique from the last. The negatives. It’s too low on the App Store, in the aspect of I had to scroll down a little bit too far to find this app… it doesn’t have enough reviews for it to hold up to par with the other ad fuel and pay to win apps that are pretty good but at the cost of having to play around all the ads and messy layouts to get to download one or two pretty cool backgrounds. It’s simple, yes I did say it was a good thing the layout is simple, BUT I am aware that simplicity, in respect to this app, is useful. But sometimes, the simplicity of it makes it feel unfinished or even lazy. Some other people might really like it, like myself, but others will notice how luxurious it might feel but with the layout being so easy, it takes away from that high end feel and it can “seem” lazy and unrefined to others. It truly depends on who YOU are as a person and YOU like your phone to feel in your hands or how you WANT it to look like to others around you. Let’s say your in a meeting or something, your phone lights up, and the background shows, to some who are with friends out having boba tea or dinner,
Overall the app is stellar, but one of the new artist collections, Overflow Design does not fit with the luxury aesthetic and feel of all the other collections. Mildly disappointed to see such a great app add a bad collection of wallpapers
This is without a doubt the best application for iPhone wallpapers. It’s easy, free and high quality. Everything from the UI to the image quality is wonderful. I have tried basically every other wallpaper app on the app store and they’re terrible. They’re all filled to the brim with intrusive, pop-up advertisements that end up making them unusable. To the developers of Vellum, keep doing a great job. I hope you guys don’t lose sight of this gem you’ve created.
Had the app for years, loved the high quality pictures and wallpaper Choices, but now there are ads that CANNOT be closed. If you attempt to view a wallpaper pack it forces an ad that you can’t get off the screen. I understand they need to make money but come on.
I don’t want premium. I don’t care about ads. I don’t want special features so stop popping up and asking me every time I go from one page to the next. Do you think this will convince me to get premium instead of getting angry and posting this negative review? Provide a great product and inform me once of the option so because you make a great product I can’t choose not to get premium. Hitting your customers over the head with the request is the wrong way to approach getting our loyalty.
New collections are being released as “art” when some are blatantly AI generated images. There is no acknowledgement of using this technology in the application. Please refrain from using this app as it is disingenuous to real artists who produce wallpapers.
