I had struggled for years finding good training plans for distance running, usually just taking what I could find off the internet. Vert.run has taken all of the guesswork out of training with training plans for every distance and scenario, plus you get paired with an awesome coach who can help modify the plan or pump you up before your race! I could not recommend this app more
I came across vert.run a few years ago and still is daily. I appreciate the focus on simple, straightforward guidance. The latest version of the app is great for preparing for races by logging and tracking workouts using your phone. Overall a great experience with the app, as well as the vert.run team and community!
I began using Vert 8 months ago when I decided to start training for a road marathon. The training plan and coach have been super helpful with advice on balancing training with work, managing training while recovering from an injury, and overall broadening the running exercises in my training arsenal. An additional aspect of the app that I have found to be helpful is the “Community” tab. You can post on this feed and and see what other Vert users are up to. This is really great and adds a sense of camaraderie to reaching your running goals. Overall, would recommend Vert to anyone looking for a personalized training plan at an affordable price point.
I started using the app more than 3 years ago as I was trying to find the best way to train for such a wildly demanding sport of trail running. Without a doubt, this app has completely transformed my running experience! The app offers a wide variety of training plans, with specific workout details each day. I particularly love the coaching and feedback, which help me improve my endurance and improve as a runner. The community feature is also fantastic, allowing me to connect with fellow runners and stay motivated. Overall, this app is a must-have for anyone looking to elevate their trail running game. Highly recommended! I’ve successfully completed ultras ranging from 50k to 50mile+ using Vert.run.
The app is fine however, I have messaged the coach 3 times and emailed support about a question regarding the difference in runtimes that it gives me on the week overview vs the day overview. NO ONE has responded to me. For example I have a long run tomorrow. On the week overview it says 2hr 30min but when you open up the workout it says 1hr 45min. So, I would like an answer on why these differ.
The app would never record my training and my “coach” never made any effort to figure it out on their end. The “coach” offered little to no tips or advice beyond being a cheerleader. I’m training for a 50 miler and he repeatedly treated each long run like I was running a marathon. It’s worth hiring a personal coach to meet with. This app is a waste of money. You can find the same programming for free online and that’s about all that you’re paying for.

I’m a middle of the pack trail runner, occasional podium finisher in my age group, and a lover of all things trail. Problem is, I’m easily distracted by shiny objects and tend to be less than consistent when it comes to my training. I tried multiple programs at my local gym, asked my road racing buddies for support, but nothing seemed to work to keep me on track. The options I tried lacked technology and also the pro coaching advice I was looking… and the Vert.Run app is exactly that. If you are looking for a ton of training plan options and are a beginning runner going from the couch to trail, or an elite trail runner preparing for your next mountain race challenge, this app and the optional coaching provided are amazing. Good news, there are even free options! I’ve tried other free options from other apps and websites, but Vert.Run brings them straight to you from professional trail runners which is super rare these days. As of this review, I am following one of the 8 week base building trail running plans as I ramp up to race later this year. I am a Vert.Run subscriber and paying the monthly fee for direct communication from my coach (who is a sponsored pro racer and one of the top trail runners in the world) and I have not missed a workout and look forward to every day I get to run with the advice of my coach. You will be amazed at how much encouragement you get from your coach and it makes me amore accountable to sticking to the plan because I want my coach to see great results coming from his efforts. He customizes my plan based on my race schedule, reviews my progress, and provides valuable tips for everything from nutrition to running on packed snow/ice. Access to this sort of information is just awesome. I get communication from my coach through the app two times per week and answers to any question I ask. Seriously… any question. I honestly can’t think of another program you can follow with this level of support from an actual pro trail runner. The cost is minimal in comparison to everything you get from this app and optional paid program. I highly recommend this free app to any trail runner and encourage you to try the paid option to see how much better you can be as a runner. Your next trail run adventure is waiting for you, it’s up to you to make the first move!
