VHS Synth FAQ
Is VHS Synth free?
VHS Synth is not free (it costs 129.00), however it doesn't contain in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is VHS Synth legit?
🤔 The VHS Synth app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
There’s a sale going on right now, but be warned that while it IS less expensive, it’s still broken. Just checked again on the latest OS just in case it was an OS problem and not an app problem. —— For example, if one creates a new song in GB. Choose a preset. Play it. Sounds good. Record it. Sounds good. Create a NEW track by duplicating the first one. (This works for EVERY other plugin) The first track now no longer sounds the same. (It doesn’t affect all instruments, if you want to hear what I’m talking about, try Jamie Mallender’s “Impending Doom”). Of all the AUV3’s I use the AudioKit ones are the most inconsistent. I understand what they’re trying to do and I commend them for it, but the results on my iPad Pro tend to be very flaky for this. Update: Just to see what would happen, I exported the GB file. That’s not what I expected to start OR the way it sounded when I closed the file. I can’t recommend this at all. Down to 1 star.
Audiobus/iaa
Is there anyway to make this available to route directly to iaa output to FL studio Mobile like you can with Synth One? That one connects perfectly but this one doesn’t show up on my Audiobus list :(

Top shelf.
Jeez this is so good.
Well done.
Velocity settings when?
Digitalism 2000 has velocity settings, why not this one? Ive been waiting patiently for velocity setting since the app came out. This thing is not fun to play when you have to smash a key to get sound going.
This is good
A lot of great sounding presets with some nice tweaks available for variety. Definitely an inspirational app. Love it! 😎👍🏼
Awful UI but I see (mostly unused) potential.
My biggest gripe with this app is this: the interface doesn’t make much sense. There is a lot of wasted space in the UI, the keyboard takes way too much space for what it is - a generic IOS keyboard without any expression. The Output and Layer meters in the middle of the main page are primarily an eye candy, not very useful, waste of UI space. The knobs and buttons are unnecessarily large and spaced out too much. If organized better, everything could fit on just one page. This is in reference to the standalone version, meanwhile as an AUV3 it is beyond nonsensical, as half of the space of the UI is literally just blank and unused. All three pages can easily fit into just one in the AUV3 for sure. Speaking of pages, I don’t understand the labels, for example, there are effects (reverb, vintage, tremolo, auto pan, etc) on the “main” page, yet there is an “fx” page with more effects. It simply does not make the navigation intuitive.
Now the most important stuff. Some sounds are interesting but once you realize that this is in big part a sample player and you can’t craft the sound as you normally would because you have no access to the original synth’s parameters, you’ll be frustrated. You won’t be able to change the tempo of the modulation baked into the sample for example. The controls shaping the sound on top of it are not so great (I will say that the reverb is very good though, I also really like the “heat” setting). The whole VHS thing is a bit of a baloney. I don’t buy the whole idea of recording to VHS and then resampling. This however is definitely a catchy sales feature…
Bizarre and Amazing
This is a whole Brave New World for a subtraction synthesis!
Developer stays with reported issues till fixed.
Now I can save Presets and am having a ‘sonic’ of a good time now!
Fantastic
Great presets, thanx.
Inconsistent sound quality
Character and quality of many sounds are inconsistent from higher to lower registers. Makes app largely unusable. Please fix this.
