Interesting
I like the idea of being rewarded for physical exercise, but I guess the game algorithm didn’t match up with my expectation. If you haven’t installed the app, let me give you a quick overview: You generate a CATlete - you’re in-game character - and level it up (to a point) with the GEMs you receive for your physical activity. Your CATlete then battles other CATletes, and the winner receives WLKN, a tradable crypto token. Here’s the (first) rub - you can’t access your winnings until you deposit WLKN tokens you’ve bought on an exchange. That, I didn’t mind - I’d rather spend money on a game than be inundated with ads. But the thing that frustrates me the most about this app is the CATlete battles. Your CATlete has three attributes - strength, stamina and speed - which are used, along with the number of steps you’ve done in the last 24 hours, to determine the battle winner. In my mind, those attributes would be multipliers for your steps, but that’s not the case. Whoever has the highest individual attribute most effective for that particular battles wins most of the time. I’ve lost battles where I’d done 20,000+ steps against someone who’d done less than 1,000, but because their attribute was superior (50 vs 40 for example) I would lose. You can purchase in-game NFTs from other players in a marketplace that increase attributes, but before I’m going to spend any more money, I’d want a better understanding of how these battles actually work. But also, I’m not certain how to get those NFTs in the first place - there seem to be lootboxes for sale, but I can’t buy them. Bottom line - I like the concept and I can see a lot of work has gone into it, but I feel there’s not enough to it, unless you like the pay-to-win model.
