Web MIDI Browser

Published by: Takashi Mizuhiki

Description

Web MIDI Browser is a web browser for browsing Web Apps made with Web MIDI API.
Web MIDI Browser can activate the Bluetooth MIDI functionality which is a new function of iOS 8. Instruments which support Bluetooth MIDI connectivity can be connected to Web Apps by using this App.
Web MIDI API is a new web client API. It's being standardized as a part of HTML5. By utilizing the API, you can build web apps that interact with MIDI instruments, for example, keyboards, DJ controllers and so on.
Originally, MIDI is a physical interface for connecting electric musical instruments to heighten expressiveness of playing music. But now it's used in many ways. Nowadays, web apps are a keystone of great services. If its power comes into the MIDI world, the usability of MIDI is likely to expand. Web MIDI browser can bridge both worlds in iOS.

This is a much needed app, but sadly no longer works in 2021. If developer could fix it, I will give 5 stars.

It actually works

Enable SysEx in settings and it work like a charm. Updating a 16n works at least

Does Not Work. At All.

Web midi must have changed or something. This app will not give you access to web midi at all. 3 years old, this app is abandon-ware.

Thanks!

Awesome idea! It’s insane that this is still not implemented on iOS, but is on every other browser. Personally, I feel apple is intentionally holding back the web so it can get its 30% cut of apps in the App Store.

Lifesaver!

This is still the only way to use Web MIDI on iOS, and it’s very much appreciated! Thanks!

Doesn't work with Novation Circuit

It doesn't work with the Novation Circuit. Also seems to drain the battery a lot. It used almost 30% of the battery usage for the day, and rest was taken up by the lock screen and various music apps. I removed since it doesn't work for me.

Use MIDI Web Apps

With this app, you can simple load in the link for a MIDI web app and it will then bring up the app which you can then use to run the apps on your iOS device. This works great, for example, there's a web app called iSEQTRIBE that allows you to control the MIDI clock on iElectribe and send it pitch data as a sequence so you can have a melody that accompanies your beats too. You can bookmark web apps from within MIDI Web Browser so you can easily recall them later.

Very cool idea

This is obviously in an early stage — but what a clever idea! You can create a MIDI-enabled web page anywhere on the internet…. and then the page can play the synthesizers on your iOS device. Kudos to the developer for thinking of this; a really nice idea. I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes.
