Great magazine, easy to read on iPad

Fave mag without the paper pile or the wait

I have just subscribed for twelve months. I love this magazine, but being in Australia we don't get it at the same time as the UK, and with the fluctation of the Aussie dollar, the paper version has got quite expensive. This way I have the edition quickly, much more cheaply and without the decision of what articles to keep..... Because I can keep them all! Best general family history mag in the world.

Excellent publication. Interesting articles that will help with your research. Good illustrations. Articles written by knowledgeable people. Great to be able to have on iPad.

Great format for genealogy

I'm really enjoying have WDYTYA on my iPad. It's so convenient, and although it's effectively the paper mag in digital format the hyperlinks to genealogy web pages mean you can do that instant search on something of interest.

I like the magazine, but!!

Don't know what happened to my subscription - was supposed to automatically renew on 22 April (according to an e-mail from iTunes), however this didn't happen. Just paid for another 12 months - hope this works okay.

DO NOT UPDATE

I have updated the app and lost all my magazines. It will not show them and today the media company even took a new payment. Absolute disaster so if you want to read the magazine, buy it at a newsagent as this app no longer works despite removing and re downloading 3 times

Ueless Search

Jakey_the_dog on

Already have a hardcopy subscription so downloaded only to test the search facility. Frankly it is useless. Unable to use “” facility to narrow search results. Searched for “Buns on board” which is a hopefully unique caption appearing in April 2020 edition. The search found masses if hits from endless editions for words containing “on”. Don’t bother with it.

Buggy and not useful

MS2OSXconvert on

Two issues: 1. When you search for an article as soon as the result are displayed it crashes unless you are extremely quick in choosing a result. Edit: this fault happened for the first day or two. It seems to have been corrected. 2. I already have two or three years back numbers - I already have a subscription. I downloaded this app to give me the ability to search these back issues. The results generated from a search don’t tell where the article is and only offer to sell me the mag containing that article. As a lot of the information in the magazine becomes outdated within a year or two this is rather pointless. Edit: on some searches the actual pages are displayed and on others only a preview is offered of the mag issue it is in. The app needs a function that just indexes the articles and tells you where your search result appears. If then you don’t have that copy you can then buy it.

No Pocketmags integration.

The app is fine for reading, its just a shame that it doesn’t integrate with Pocketmags as some of my magazines are bought through that and some are from iTunes. When I look at my library in the app, it looks like I am missing some issues because the Pocketmags ones don’t show up as purchased issues.

Informative and detailed

I enjoy the reading WDYTYA and would definitely recommend this to others, I find the historical stories fascinating and intellectually engaging.
