Hello. Love the app. Recently it has not been working. The error message is: “Could not connect to William Whitaker’s Words”. I am a ad-free user. Not that it matters.

Broken?

TimG777 on

This would be really useful since I was using the online version, but when I look up a word it just displays an html doc that shows an error instead of my word. I would love to use this if that gets fixed

It is not working anymore. It always says “could not connect to Whittaker’s words” now. Please advise. The other apps are not nearly as good! Please come back! I teach a lot of Latin teachers around the US and I always recommend this app!

When we attempt to look up a word, a statement pops ups saying “could not connect to William Whitaker’s Words”. This happens with all word entries on both iPad and iPhone. After reading other reviews, we were hopeful this would be a helpful app :(

It was working great but something changed; now I get even for simple words “no match found.” This is so for iPad and iPhone.

Problem?

Can I go back on

Guess I use the review form to try to communicate with the developer. App Support takes me to a useless online page. These searches appear to have information that I am unable to decode, e.g., I asked for Latin ways to say "die", and I got, among others "cado, cadere, cecidi, casus V INTRANS 3 1 INTRANS [XXXAO] fall, sink, drop, plummet, topple; be slain, die; end, cease, abate; decay;" "cado, … casus" I understand — like other Latin dictionaries, it reports: 1st person singular present tense, present infinitive, 1st person singular perfect tense, perfect participle. I also get V INTRANS — "cado" is an intransitive verb. But then I'm lost. What is "3 1 INTRANS"? Three or third what? One what? Some other kind of intransitive? You think I didn't believe it the first time? And "[XXXAO]"? Three kisses and a hug? The same search (for "die") also returned "pereo, perire, perivi(ii), peritus V 6 1 [XXXAX] ". So this is also a verb, but not intransitive? Transitive or deponent? And it has 6 of whatever "cado" has 3 of, so it's not the conjugation pattern. And the XXX pattern is different. If this code represents useful information, I would like access to it. If not, I recommend that you omit it. I really want to like this app, but …
