No longer supported
It would appear that the author of what is a neat little app left the stage some years ago and the app is unsupported. I needed to reinstall the app on my phone and it no longer recognises the spaces I have already purchased, ie the “restore” function does not work and I refuse to buy them again. My email went unanswered. Use something else!
Poor support
I’ve sent two emails to the support team for the synchronization problems but I have never received a response.
How I Agree with the last view
I too have to use winesearcher, and I also had problems syncing my iPhone and my iPad
However, having tried a number of apps this is clearly the best.
Improve the functionality
I have approx 500 bottles, some in storage and some at home. I quite like this app but I find one or two problems with it which I think could easily be remedied.
1. Not sure what source is used to search online for bottles but have found Wine Searcher much better. I have often had to search WS when the online search failed and you want more detail than is available on the bottle.
2. I populated the database on my iPad but when I tried to sync to my iPhone, I had to down load the app again and had to purchase more data space for my iPhone.
3. I have read elswhere that the app syncs well with other devices? No so. You have to uppload to DropBox then down load to you phone. The two devices are only in sync when this task is performed. I use Wunderlist for shopping etc and that app is able to sync instantaneously! In 2016 it is too clunky!
4. Lastly, it strikes me that the food matching suggestions are aimed at an American audience as so many of the suggestions include meatloaf, even for the higher end wines. As a Brit, I don't know anyone who eats meatloaf. I'd like to see some more classical suggestions or don't bother..
This is great
For me this app works Home brew wine, and I can add my home brew recipes in the notes
Best so far
I've tried several apps to keep track of my cellar and this one is the best I've found yet. The brilliant photo tool allows you to snap the label and it will mostly come back right away with an accurate match. Those it knows it's failed to identify go for manual sorting (I hope it's enthusiasts, and not a sweat shop?) Some fall between and are incorrectly identified but you can then go it alone and put the record straight.
One in your collection you can engage in stock control and price management, along with supplier which is all added to the global database And of course it's possible to add tasting scores and notes which are for you and others to see if you choose. Finally in this section you are rated against other users for your activity. Some are hard to keep up with!
What's missing: well who doesn't want to know how much their cellar is worth, or how much is being spent (and drunk) on a regular basis. The data is all there but with no way to extract it.
And as a developer I would love to see an API to get my data back for other analysis or my dashboard! Perhaps when enough users ask for this?
On summary a very good app, I recommended highly.
Useless outside the US
Only list wines imported into US and US grown wines. No pricing data other dollars.
Useful app
I have been looking for a personal wine tracking & management system for some time. This definitely seems to be worth a try. The 3.0 version is very nice with some great features (multiple photos, URL links with wine record…)
Bad app
Seems like a good app, but deeply flawed. Buying more 'spaces' is not straight forward. Inputting data is time consuming and copy and paste is not allowed. Organisation of data fields is not possible either. Lots of time lost when app crashed and data lost on restart. Most functionality is not available in v2. Bit of a rip-off!
WineDatabase
A good database. it would benefit from having a section in which to record the purchase source of each wine
