Woolly for Mastodon Reviews
Great slick and fast Mastodon client, needs some further features
After a couple of months of a great TestFlight the great Woolly Mastodon client by the developer of Fenix for Twitter is available. The subscription price is worth it I think and a lot more affordable then Ivory.
The pros:
- lots of customisation eg set one list or hashtag in menu footer
- slick UI
- fast
- customisation
- great iPad columns
The cons at the moment:
- edit/remove lists is not yet possible only reading and adding is
- some videos I can’t post somehow (reported)
I am sure the developer Matteo will work hard to add these features soon since most of earlier requests have been implemented in the recent updates. I subscribed for a year.
Used to be great
It jumped out way ahead early with nearly full features but then they stopped developing it. I'll be moving on I guess.
Nice app but please fix the crashes
The multi-columns and the ability to customize them makes very good use of the iPad’s screen real estate. It crashes sometimes when I’m scrolling on my iPad Pro. I hope this gets fixed soon. I also hope that the developer responds to questions and suggestions.
Room to Grow
Best looking of the bunch, clean and tasteful design. Where it lacks for me, and what keeps me from using it more, is its speed and how it loads new posts. To compare - I don’t like Ivory’s design but they’ve totally nailed the content loading mechanism and speed; the haptics are also helpful. I’m hoping Woolly will see improvements here and eventually be comparable to Ivory in this respect.
Very good.
My only gripe is that I’d like to be able to just tap the timeline button once to reach the very top of my feed.
Right now I have to get to the top, pull to refresh, then tap the top of the page to get to the top again. If I’m really behind I might have to do that several times before I’m at the top.
Great app with a few annoyances
Really like this app, and as other users mentioned the threaded feature of the app is really great! It has a really nice and minimal UI that I like as well.
However one of the most annoying things I find about the app is that whenever I open the app after a day or two I have to sit and keep refreshing multiple times just to get to the latest posts. I don’t know if this is a feature, but it would be good to have a way to customize what the user wants to do!
Fast
It’s a crowded market for Mastodon clients and several are very good. Woolly stands out as feeling the fastest and does a great job keeping your place in the timeline. Gets the basics right and is a pleasure to use. Also has the best icon. 🐘
Great!
I’ve used quite a few mastodon clients, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses but woolly is the best I found. For whatever reason Woolly does a lot better with message threading (click on a reply and the full conversation appears… most of the time 🙂). Aside from that Woolly is quite polished, has the features I enjoy, and doesn’t stutter in my iPhone. Good job!
Great for conversation
If you like to comment on posts or even just dig into comments, give Woolly a shot. The threaded comments are great. The newest release (1.1) adds the ability to see who else boosted & faved a post. Multiple account support, and the ability to customize layout (columns/tabs) per account.
Pay to play to post.
You are locked on paywall subscription to submit a post. Far better apps other there. Ice Cubes, Ivory, etc...
