Description

WOV for iOS is an AUv3 effect for making a wide range of textures out of your sounds – from familiar tremolo waves to glitchy stutters and everything in between.
WOV lands on iOS with an injection of inspiring presets by Richard Devine and Stèv!
*** Please note: WOV is an Audio Unit extension (AUv3) – it only works in an AUv3 host app like Garageband, AUM, Cubasis, Modstep, Beatmaker 3, etc... ***

HOW IT WORKS / DESCRIPTION
The Rate Section
This section determines the rate or speed at which WOV operates. Rate can either be assigned in Hz, or in fractions of a beat in sync with a hosting app – to switch between Hz and sync modes, use the switches at the bottom center of WOV.
It’s easy to set up a static rate for WOV and leave things at that – but WOV has much more to offer! To the right of the Rate control, the bipolar Response knob sets the sensitivity with which WOV’s rate will either slow down or speed up depending on the volume of the incoming signal. The bipolar Variation control further introduces randomized amounts of variation to the rate – at its extremes going as far half the rate (knob to the far left) or twice the rate (knob to the far right).
The Depth Section
Depth sets the amount of modulation over the dry signal – to the left and it’s more subtle, all the way to the right and WOV will act as a repeating gate. Silence introduces more randomness to the plugin, increasing the likelihood that the amplitude will be zero for some cycles.
The Waveform Section
The waveform of a tremolo effect is essentially its repeating envelope. Classic tremolo effects offer stock waves – WOV, being a K-Devices product, is much more customizable!
The Wave knob morphs between a quasi-sine shape (far left) and a slightly rounded-off square shape (far right). Peak acts as a kind of attack control for the waveform – far left for a sharp attack, or far right to reach the peak more gradually. Finally, the Warp knob allows you to either squeeze or expand the waveform, affecting the length of each sound. When the Wave control is set to a full square, Warp acts as a duty cycle/pulsewidth control.
The Accents Multislider
The eight-step sequencer uses a multislider to set the relative accent value for each beat of the rate. The slider adjusts between two and eight steps in length, and a button offsets the accents going to the right channel one step over from the left (note that this requires Stereo to be enabled).

Get Wide
WOV can either preserve the stereo placement of its input signal, or it can add stereo offset to the output signal. Enabling the Stereo switch directly affects the Response, Silence, and Sequencer for a wider sound.
Go By Feel
As part of encouraging more musical and creative applications of WOV, in addition to using symbols for controls, the controls in WOV do not have individual readouts. We encourage you to let your ears determine the right knob positions whenever you can! If you’d like a precise readout, however, you can see/edit it by clicking on any parameter and looking in the upper-right corner of WOV.
Icons
By default, all labels are graphical – for text labels, click the symbols/text label switch in the lower-right had corner.

WOV Reviews

Great Once You Do This

I thought these were not working. Once I opened each app and restarted the iPad, all showed in AUM.

Not showing up in DAW

Looks awesome but won’t show up in aum/garageband/Audiobus

Complements SHAPER wonderfully

Big fan of SHAPER. The audacity of which is now perfectly complemented by the subtlety of WOV’s tremolo-ish-chorus-y-gate-ish-(but sounds nothing like any of those)-signal enhancement. Whereas SHAPER’s UI is visually simple & makes it perfectly clear how adjustments effect your sounds, WOV is much more obscure in it’s manipulation of audio. I choose the standard interface, not the symbols, so I can know what/how/why the sound will be modulated, yet I can’t anticipate the results I get. (It’s not a crap-shoot, technical understanding would enhance the predictability) The dev’s intent that this interface would inspire exploration is accomplished by the effect itself. I know what knobs I’m turning but I’m still learning exactly what they’re doing to make it sound so good. (I am curious how this effect would work if confined to SHAPER’s UI; although it’s designed to rearrange modules, which is not how WOV functions.) While it excels at subtly, yet significantly, modulating audio with constant, living, breathing movement that makes it sound alive without overpowering the source, it can also be pushed to significantly de/re-form sounds if needed. If you buy apps to create music, invest a couple bucks in creative apps like this. This app feels like it was written like a song: it feels inspired. It has a beginning, middle & end that are well defined and each necessitates the existence of the other and produces complex results without disrupting other instruments/sounds. (I rely on reviews when buying apps. Write more reviews - sometimes your perspective maybe the only one a person can relate to.)

Changed my entire style!

I’ve been pretty deep into the iOS audio scene for a few years now and currently it’s a major component to my Ableton setup through IDAM by way of an iPad running AUM so I’m very selective with the tools I choose to process my tracks through since it’s a lot of cpu and all that but anyhow, my favorite and first goto plug-in for sound design and sample play has become this killer right here! I’ve always been very focused on the possibilities of rhythmic tweaks and had a bit of an IDM/glitch sound to my hip hop tracks drums but now I’m using this bad boy to run a drum top or secondary track as well as other instruments through the same gating patterns to get some unbelievably fun choppy yet banger tracks that always sound fresh thanks to this one au! When I start something from the tablet in AUM I have begun to default to adding a track for Patterning and another Elastic Drums (or Noir) and immediately run both through a bus with WOV running on it then messing around more with the effect then i need to with the actual drum looping at this point! It’s become the center focus of my entire songwriting approach to rhythm on many elements of my writing and it just added a seemingly typical effect in a way that’s so fresh that I’m struggling on narrowing down the material I want for final mixes with endless source of new creative work coming out of my setup! And it all sounds original and tight as hell! I use it way more than the example I gave but just consider how tight u can make parts that at first hardly sync well when u can put them in perfect sync like a vocal chip sample loop, some strings and ur kick drum! It’s allowed me to expand my very concept on what the role of Rhythm actually can be. Great design great tool awesome presets. My fav app pound for pound when it comes to $ without a doubt! In iOS n iPadOS only Samplr holds a dearer place in my heart but nothing else

Thanks dev!!

This is a very special software for us. Try throwing it on a beat and tweak a little... pure heaven! Thanks dev!!
