Description

Developed by experts and endorsed by parents and teachers, Write My Name is a fun way for children to practice writing letters, words, names and phrases. Write My Name supports children ages 4 through 6 to learn how to write their name, trace uppercase and lowercase letters, and write over 100 familiar sight/Dolch words. Write My Name meets some of the basic reading and writing Common Core State Standards for kindergarten such as the introduction and mastery of print and word recognition concepts.

■ How to Play
Embedded within a child’s beautiful wood desk space there are three activity areas that preschoolers and kindergarteners can explore as they practice and master writing their alphabet, name, and common sight words.
ABC alphabet book focuses on learning and tracing the individual uppercase or lowercase letters.
- Word cards introduce over 100+ common sight words where children trace words in uppercase or lowercase letters. Once the word is traced, the word card comes to life with vibrant colors and animations. Trace the word a second time and a star stamp is added to the student’s word journal. These rewards encourage children to keep progressing through all the words provided.
- My Name allows parents and teachers to create 100 name tags, including the child’s name with a picture for children to practice writing words that are especially meaningful for them.

■ Students with Special Needs
Write My Name is for children with special needs to help them practice emerging writing skills in a fun and playful way. Children with name writing as one of their IEP(individual education program) goals will especially benefit from the Write My Name learning application as it makes this task accessible and achievable to children with fine motor delays and sensory processing issues.

Pease provide an update with the option to hear the letter sound rather than the letter name.

Brilliant app BUT what a shame that it is letter names you hear rather than the letter sound! We play with the volume turned down which means you miss the sound as you write which the kids love ! Change to hear the letter sound and it would defo be a 5* app.

One thing missing

This is a very good app, but if the letters could also be pronounced using phonics it would be the best on the market that I've seen.

Mum of 4 year olds

I've also got Injini's Game Suite. Both this and the Game Suite are very aesthetically pleasing, which seems to be important for my 4 year old twins with some learning delays. (They are not talking.) They return to these apps when others have fallen by the wayside. I read a comment about the app not being phonetic but I find that my 2, despite their learning difficulties, can sort out letter names and sounds. Besides, I'm not too sure how beneficial to a child's learning to read and write a rigid approach to phonics is. Anyway, the important thing is, my 2 like the app and are learning loads from it. It has simple, uncluttered and pleasing qualities, (such as the clicky stars) and is very well designed for all children's learning, not just those with learning difficulties. For example, the 'rewards' are in the 'doing', not in collecting stupid, disassociated stickers after the activity. Just one other thought: I would dearly like a writing app that taught cursive script to younger children. If there were an additional option to write the sight words in a joined up cursive script, I would rate this app 5+. A simple cursive script might help those who have a degree of dyspraxia. Although, all children may benefit from learning joined up handwriting from the beginning. This way the word is written and seen as a block (as well as being made up of individual phonemes.)

Not suitable for English market

I'm really not sure why this app isn't better. Despite providing a record facility for you to make your own nametags, this facility hasn't been extended to the majority of the app which makes it unusuable outside the USA. It's not just pronunciattion, it uses all letter names not phonics so it doesn't fit with the national curriculum in the UK and a recording facility would negate this shortcoming as well. And really baffling - the letter tracing can't cope with kids doing letters they know quickly, they have to wait for the app!? Nice to have's would include the facility to set the alphabet to only lower case, or only upper, or mixed as this would open it up further to the SEN market Also appears to have a bug in the background music setting with the 'off'' slide not always meaning 'off'. All in all a complete waste of money - unless your kids are slow and you're American.
